Edge Comp

Well I was surfing the web tonight, and I found a hell of a deal on an edge comp for my 2001, only $480, so I ordered it, I dont have gauges so im kind of in a situation, I dont know if i should wait to get gauges before I install it, or if I should just install it and keep it in the lowest setting intill i get gauges, what do you all think, and how difficult are these to put in. Thanks for the info

Don't tap the wire and you will be fine. Would tow a lot (8K+), also try not to lug the motor as that is the only time egts will get hot with the ez from what I have seen.

Plug it in for the EZ mode. Some people have a little trouble tapping the wire but you will figure it out.

ditto not tapping the pump wire. i also noticed that the truck takes a couple minutes to cool when I come to a stop. add an extra minute to your cool-down time before you shut off the truck and you'll be ok.
Install is fairly painless, good instructions. *MAKE SURE YOU GROUND THE UNIT TO THE BATTERY** I fought a problem for a couple months that was cured by re-grounding the comp box. ...and when you do tap the pump wire, check out the Blue Chip and BD pump covers so you don't use the crappy tap included with the comp.

Don't want to steal the thread, but I have a comp wire pierced with the tap sent with the unit. Would it be better to get a BD pump cover? The edge wire tap really doesn't look secure. Can the edge comp suffer power loss if the connections not complete. I'm not talking about the unit not working at times but just not getting all you should out of the unit. (wire has been pierced for a just over a year)

Kman9090:
DO CHECK your LP pressure before the install.
I didn't, it costed me a new VP44.

The pump cover is the best, but, if your thinking cheap, sodder the wired. Works fer me!

How do you check the LP presseure?

And I found it at 4wheelonline there running a sale on all edge products, at least $150 Off of everything

Hah, just giving you a hard time. It's not a question of if, but when your wire tap ever comes loose and contacts the side of the intake manifold it will ground the VP44. The best thing you can do is solder and heat shrink it.
