I am about to upgrade with a Draw Straw V, Big Line Kit and Holly-Blue as I just replaced the VP and have the in-tank conversion. Can I have some feed back on which is an easier thing (considering I won't have a second hand).....Drop the almost empty tank or tilt/block up the bed. I do have a pretty heavy bed cover that also need to come off.

Drop the tank it's a piece of cake.

 

tank drop, just do it with as little fuel as possible. I did mine with just an 1/8th tank and it was a piece of cake.

 

I dropped the tank while it was over half full using a forklift, no problems at all

 

Does the straw just pull fuel out of the basket? I have a hard time seeing that this mod works. My pick-up strainer is pushed into the bottom of the tank. The fuel will only come in thru bottom or over the top of the module into the pick-up basket.

 

If you drop the tank, make sure you support it where the straps do, otherwise you won't get the right sag in the tank, and your draw straw may be short and will suck air when low on fuel. My vote is to lift the bed.

 

Not an issue with the DSV.

Since the DSV uses a flexible hose and the module itself is spring loaded, there's no cutting to length or other issues to contend with. This is with the in tank modules only.

I have all the prototype pieces done for the DS1 kits as well to go with the same setup. This will be for the standard 94-04 modules. No more guessing at tube length!

Fishin2Deep4U, how does the module fit in the tank. My intake fuel pick-up module is pushed in the bottom of the tank. There is a screen on the bottom of the module and the draw straw picks up fuel from inside the module. I'm just having a hard time seeing how this system works. I have the in-tank dodge fuel pump pick-up unit and the Vulcan draw straw V.

 

Drop the tank.

Damaging the bed would suck.

Yes, Pulls out fuel from the basket! On mine, I have two return lines... from FASS and VP-44, that also go to the basket.
This was a prototype from Vulcan ( a few yrs ago)and I don't know if new set ups are similar.
Mine works well....



Upside down in Pic...drawstraw pointed up. You can do it without the basket but it's not recommended. Directions just say to cut upper mesh film out, I believe, but not bottom mesh.

Hard w/o helper but definately drop tank. I used a 2x8x6' on a floor jack to support and lower tank.

Rowj, I have the same return line issue. I was just gonna use the two stock fuel attachments on the pick-up to dump fuel back into the basket. The new draw is a 1/2in tube that goes from the basket thru the factory plugged vent line on the top of the pick-up. This is such a simple of a mod. I'm tired only running on 3/4 of my fuel tank, this such fix that problem completely. My truck is running so good I really don't want to rip into it right now.

I'm tired of shutting off the truck during fueling. I have the fass return piped into the breather vent/filler. I've also had fuel flow out thru fuel fill-up (tank cap/gas cap) onto the ground, as I was driving. This mod will fix that both of those fass issues.
