I Need Advice on 01 Ram UPGRADES

This is my first Diesel and I am an avid racer. I now have read enough on here that I want to spend some money on my truck. I have nothing done to it now, not even a FASS. I want some extra HP and also some smoke without compromising the fact it is a daily driver. I have read enough on here to be confused about the route I should go and what I should order and who I should order it from. Please give me some info on what parts and what mods I should do and who I should order parts from. I was thinking about a Smarty, but not sure if the adrenaline is better suited or not. I also know I should mod the wastegate but not sure what I need to do to it. walk me through this stuff please. I want to spend under $5000

Come help me spend some money

Just order the smarty see if that is enough for you. it is well under the $5k u want to spend. Plus, you will need the extra $$ for a clutch/auto trans rebuild (you never said what your ride was?)

Sorry I will have to update my info. I have an auto trans. I was looking at the adrenaline and it looks pretty good, how does t compare to the smarty. What is the best exhaust to buy and should I go with bigger injectors and which ones are good.

I would start with the trans. If the miles are low, an aftermarket VB/TC will make a huge difference.

Update:

I ran across a great deal on a 4" stainless exhaust and ordered it along with a 2" leveling kit.

I was wondering what fuel pump is best, FASS or AirDog and what model for each. I am shooting for 500 rwhp.

I have read that there is alot of problems with stock trans and HP. What is the best or e most common upgrade to do to the tranny. I may not want to jump right into 500 rwhp, but will work up to it. Right now I would like to buy one programmer and maybe a set of injectors. Tell me what you think the best upgrades are to start with. Also has anyone upgraded their brake pads rotors or calipers?

Don't worry too much about the lift pump. A line kit and a stock lift pump is enough for 500 hp, just as long as the %&#@ pump is working. I went to a cam driven mechanical pump after three of those so I can't comment on the latest and greatest electric pumps. Your injection pump doesn't care which one it is longs as its getting 10+ psi =P

Since you have a power puck a smarty wouldn't really be a power upgrade, but it might be fun to have. Maybe buy the smarty and sell the puck. Look into some tranny upgrades for that auto then injectors and turbo will get you to whatever your tranny is now built to hold.

I would do the LP & trans upgrads first. Get them out of the way and spend the rest on the power parts.

What is a better lift pump to have and who has the best price on them. Also what type of tranny upgrades should be done?

I would start with a torque converter and valve body first then i would see what you have left and start bumping horsepower. I would definetly get a smarty, I had one on my truck and loved it, Stack it wirh a Edge comp, or Juice with attitude so you have gauges..But thats me cause I love my edge and their costumer service is great. A fuel pressure light or gauge is a must...As for the smoke the smarty will help but a set of good injectors or tips will roll it out good. If you are on a low budget on the fuel pump, I run a Holley blue pump along with my stock lift pump it works great. I was lucky and got my for $30.00 off of ebay, but you can by new for $150.00 .Your truck has the Hy35 turbo which is alittle smaller but does spool up very quick, Turbo You can by a j-hook real cheap and keep the waste gate closed. I wish I had $5000.00 to spend.

Well I promised my wife I wold sell one of my toys if I could spend the money on one of my other toys. I kept my muscle car and my race car and sold my motorcycle. I have the money to spend now but not sure what to buy and what order to do it in.

How does a new valve body help the tranny?
Can anyone give me some insight on the difference between new injectors and new tips? What size would be good and where do you buy them?

get a fass, converter/valve body, chip (edge or quad) and some 75-100 horse injectors.
