Vulcan Draw Straw install instructions

I'm dropping the tank tomorrow morning to install the Vulcan Draw Straw and Walbro pump kit. I have the intructions that came with the Draw Straw but I saw some really good instructions from someone on here that had pictures. Anybody remember where they are? I've search for quite a while with no luck.

Hi

I just put one in 2-5-07. My instructions never said what to do with the old return line, Only someone who has ever installed a vulcan pick up straw would know what the heck im refering to.
I just cut the old plastic off the old return line and fitted it with some hose that was supplied and hose clamped it down. My tank was half way full but was not to heavy, just used my legs to lower it and lift it.

Feel free to shoot me any Q?s

Soak the hose in warm water before putting them on. It was around freezing when I put mine in, and it was a PITA to get the hose on the barb fitting. Ended up taking out the fitting, putting it in the vice and attaching the hose there.

Installation complete!!

Well, a buddy and I dropped the tank on Tuesday and installed the Vulcan Draw Straw and Walbro Pump Kit. Took a total of 6 hours and were not in a rush. I was interested to see inside the tank once we had the sending unit pulled. The pick up screen on the bottom of the unit has some dark brown, hard material stuck to it. Looked like hardened tar or something. The screen was probably 20% blocked. There were a few of these chunks floating around the bottom of the tank so I removed all that I could see by sloshing the tank back and forth from end to end. The instruction that came with the Draw Straw weren't very clear but we managed. I saw some instructions with pictures someone did on either this forum or another that were very nice but I couldn't find them before my install. That would have definitely helped speed up the install. If anybody has questions, feel free to ask.

Question Complete Straw

Did you use the complete length of hose for the straw? Does it fit to the filter screen or do you throw the screen away? just the open hose hangs in the tank?

My Return line is rotting out and I need to replace it at the module.

Truckman,
04ctd is right...the instructions sucked.
I left the bottom screen in place. I cut the hose so it just about touched that screen and then cut it at a 45 degree angle. On my truck the bottom screen was about an 1/8" above the bottom of the tank. Hopefully this makes sense.

Mark put it VERY politely, they were trash.
wrote by some idiot who worked in FastFood all his life,

look like they were copied off a website or e-mail.

here's the deal:
the in tank assembly is expandable,
in other words, it has a variable height to compensate for manufacturing variances in the depth of the tank & mounting assembly

so you HAVE TO FULLY EXTEND the assembly BEFORE YOU CUT THE TUBE.

or else, you will not be able to reach the bottom of the tank

ask me how i know...

ours collapsed about 3/4 inch when inserted, but cut the tube 1/2 short, so it will actually force the assembly to the bottom of the tank, and be as low as possible in the tank
