People have reported that the finger touch drain valve leaves about half a quart in the pan when you drain due to the threads extending up into the pan. The oil/sludge down at the bottom is what you want to remove the most.
People have overcome this by cross drilling holes about a 1/4'' up from the seal into the threads. These holes must match up with the grooves in the female threads of the oil pan when the valve is tightened up. Not sure if other drain valves have this same problem but would imagine they do.

For me the stock plug works just fine, over 60 changes, still on the original washer.
Trick is to never use the recommended torque on one, just snug it up tight, about 25 ft/lbs.

I have the FEMCO EZ Drain:

Makes chaining oil a whole lot less painful and messy. I actually measured the amount of oil left in the pan and it was around a 1/4 litre.

I like the stock drain plug too. I just dont take it out all the way when I drain oil.
I have about 20 changes on it and I don't torque it too much either.

Question for Infidel... Bill, do you ever try to get that last 1/2 inch of oil out of the stock pan w/ stock plug? I tried once with a bent piece of copper tube hooked to a Turkey Baster, but it didn't work too well.

I've used both, and I prefer the Femco EZ-Drain.

Robert, I didn't think much was left in the pan with the stock plug, but have never checked.
