Replacement for factory transmission oil pan w/ drain plug?
Replacement for factory transmission oil pan w/ drain plug?
Hi,
Does anybody recommend a good quality transmission pan w/ drain plug that they have used. I'm want to get a replacement for the factory pan to make it eaiser changing out the transmission fluid but I didn't really want to spend the $250 for a Mag-Hytec.
Anybody make a good quality pan that's not too pricey & will get the job done? Does Mopar make a replacement pan that is equipped with a drain plug? It's for 47RE auto transmission.
Thanks

Why don't you install a drain plug in the factory pan? When I serviced my trans the first time I bought a drain plug at NAPA and installed it in the pan.Now it's easier to service.Trying to drain the pan without a drain plug can make quite a mess.
Hello
I was looking for the same thing when I thought I had a warped pan. The 47H/E series has the same pan bolt pattern as the 727 Torqueflite although they are deeper than the 727. I bought this 727 deep pan off Ebay for my 95 and it did very well. When I got my 96 I installed one when I serviced the transmission. It holds a little more flluid than stock but has worked great for me http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Mopar...Q5fAccessories. If you don't like that one, just search for a 727 deep pan of your choosing and just make sure it holds as least as much as the stock pan.

Only $10 for one of these http://www.genosgarage.com/prodinfo.asp?number=BM-80250
I installed a drain plug in a pan on the jeep I had, and it worked great. There isn't any practical reason to buy an expensive pan with a drain, unless you need more capacity. I had about $6 in mine, and I think the manufacturers should have done that all along. Anybody know why they don't?
I installed this B&M pan on my 47rh. It holds btwn 1..5 and 2 qts extra has a thick flange with drain plug and is ribbed internal and external.I like it for the money.http://www.jegs.com/i/B%26amp%3BM/130/10280/10002/-1#

Thanks for the link. I appreciate the info. Looks like the way to go to do it cheaply. I don't need a new pan or one that has more capacity so I think I'll just put the drain plug in the factory pan.
Thanks,
Mike
My trans filter kits always come with the gasket, so it's not really a money matter for the reusable o-ring setups, IMO. The $7 BD drain plug kit is easy and seems to work fairly well...
The B&M pan comes with a gasketed washer which was good for several removals.I have since started using these washers which are also good for at least several changes and at $1.30 a piece($12.95 for 10) are cheap.http://www.mcmaster.com/#catalog/115/3196/=2j4l8d
My experience with the throw away gaskets supplied with filters has not been favorable. If you are planning on messing around with the valve body at all I would suggest using the mopar reusable which has a double row of oring gaskets in a thick plastic spacer .I think it is only like $12-$14.
