Dana power lok

Is this the correct carrier to convert my one wheel spinning demon into a two tire smoker?

I have the experience and tools to put it in and shim it up right if it is the right one.

On second thought, you may be better off buying a new powerlock and installing it into your existing carrier. (an easy job according to the websites)This would be less cost effective than buying the carrier on ebay and having the added expense of having to re-align it with your ring and pinion. I would stay away from any used driveline components unless the owner could guarantee low mileage.

What sort of costs are involved with converting an open carrier to a powerlock

Go to powertrain dot com and there is an installation guide for the Powertrax. Basically its quite easy because it doesnt require the removal of the old carrier, which would mean re-alignment. You just remove the old spider gears and intstall the powerlock unit. I may go with this setup because the unit is as quiet as a posi setup, most other lockers have a distinct ratcheting sound as you go around corners.

Wouldn't the first one work for the Dana 80 if you drilled and tapped the ring gear bolt for the larger Dana 80? As the Dana 80 is 35 spline.

Whats it cost to completely rebuild a Power lok. Those Powerloks are like almost $700 new.

He is talking about purchasing a PowrLok, which replaces the whole carrier in the diff. The Powertrax that you are speaking of is what is commonly reffered to as a "lunchbox" locker. You simply replace the spider gears in the open carrier with the Powertrax upgraded components. These are two completely seperate items and should never be confused for one another. The PowrLok is the factory limited slip differential that came in the rear of Dana 70's and some Dana 80's as the "Anti-spin differential" option. IMHO it is the best limited slip on the market as you can "stack" the clutches to make it operate the way you want. You can make these things as tight as a locker if you wish. They are very easy to rebuild, and the kits are readily available. I would not hesitate to pay up to 2-300 dollars for one on ebay and rebuild it. Also, to my understanding, all D70's in the rear of these Dodges are 35 splined axles.

P.S.- anyone know why my right rear tire is twice as worn as the rest

If you find out how many splines your 70 Dana has, I would appreciate you posting here. All of the information I have seen in online differential catalogs say the '94 and up Dana 70's in the Dodge 2500 rear axles are 32 spline.
