Cooldown Timers..............
What does your Owners Manual say for a cooldown? Nope, you don't need a cooldown timer if you want to sit in your truck for a couple of minutes before you run into the store to get a quart of milk, but I find it a pain..... We do the same thing on our helicopters because of possible oil coking around bearings and that oil is far superior to anything we're running in out trucks....... I just think anything I can do to help alleviate problems before they happen is a good idea and the $80.00 for the timer is cheap preventative maintenance.....

I plan to stick with the advice from Cummins.
If you're not towing or hauling anything just shut it off. The engine has so much power that just hauling itself around isn't enough to stress the turbo.
If it was Cummins would install a factory fix I'm sure.

I'm in the food industry and I was near a Pepsi truck doing a delivery. After a few minutes or so (wasnt counting) the Pepsi truck shut down by itself. I asked the driver how they regulate idle time and he didnt know, and I guess why should he? Anyways I thought it interesting that Pepsi found it nessesary to use a timer or turbo temp monitor. Maybe there's a reason.
Yes, the timer sold in the DTR store can be modified so the 6min setting turns into forever. Be patient, Howard emailed me back with directions to modify it and a warning that it would indeed make the truck run until it was out of fuel.
