comp,tst or smarty
I've had all three too. Originally a standard Comp, good fun and best of all, adjustable on the fly. I dyno'd 475/981.
Then I bought a Smarty and sold the Comp to help fund the Smarty. I did this because I was told the best stack was a TST and Smarty. I loved the Smarty and the big DDP injectors I was running. It got up and moved!
I then added a TST PM3. Wow! Great combo, don't kill me for saying this, but a little to much. I felt like I was going to start busting stuff. The wallet won that one. I simply couldn't afford, nor did I want to, keep dumping money into my truck. So off came the TST.
Recently I was talking with a DDP employee. We started discussing injectors, I was running DDP 5+ and the Smarty. I told him I was getting tired of washing my quarter panel every other day. He suggested some smaller injectors, something around a DDP 4. Less smoke, better daily driving, lower EGT's etc.
We also talked about the Smarty. I told him all the features that I enjoyed and the two that I didn't like, the touchy throttle and no adjustability on the fly. The touchy pedal is a big issue, I'm in the Seattle area, we have some of the worst traffic in the US. It was getting old driving a manual in traffic! When I left, I set the Smarty back to stock and drove home. What a difference, I lost the low end power, but I liked the smooth go pedal. I drove it like that for a few days and really started liking it like that. So I decided to make some changes......
I sold the Smarty and the big injectors. I installed some smaller DDP injectors and ordered a new Drag Comp. The DC arrived today and goes in tomorrow. I'm much happier with the new injectors, smoother, quieter and cleaner. I know I'll like the DC for the on the fly adjustability and the power that it has. Hopefully I'll get it on the dyno next week, I'll post the numbers when I do.
The bottom line, they are all good products, I just had to find the right combo for me. The Smarty is a good programmer, add a TST and you have a great combo! Even though Edge supposedly had some quality control issues (I never had any with them), it is a proven performer. So I've gone "old school", moderate injectors and a DC. I can drive comfortably on "injectors only" and turn it up for fun/performance without having to stop and "re-program".
