Calling All Headlight Relay Electricians

I bought a universal headlight relay kit from www.suvlights.com and it works good, somewhat.
The low and high beams function properly until I turn on the factory fog lights. Then the high beams come on in the low beam postion. So, the low, high and fog lights are on in the low beam position.

The kit has 2 relays (low and high), two headlight hookups, two fuses, hot wire, ground, and a plug that plugs into the factory headlight plug to actuate the relays low and high.

Now, I contacted the sales and they said I need two kits, one for each side. Well, one kit has two headlight hookups??? He said, just roll up the extra wire that would stretch across the radiator for each kit. What!!!

he said, since I only use one factory headlight to actuate the relays and the other is unplugged, its causing a feedback. duhh you think.

Anyway, How can I fix this without buying another $65 harness. it's bull to spend $130 for 4 relays, wire, fuses, and sockets.

I just got through wiring in the sport headlights with relays and I got the same problem. It was getting feedback from the other plug. My problem was that I didnt have the common on the right prong of the light. It is nerve racking but you can check the harness to make sure they have the right common and it will not feed back. The common for the 9004 and 9007 bulb is the middle prong. When I say common it is either the ground for the high and low beam or a constant positive depending how the relays are wired. Your relay can send either a ground to the light to make it come and that is where the constant positive power comes in. Or you relay can send positive power to either the high or low side prongs and the common will be the ground. Hope this is not to confussing.

That makes sense!!! I'll put my meter on it and see what the wires in the plug are doing. Thanks

Which is better? constant power or ground? I looked and the relays are wired for constant power.
Should I switch to a constant ground?

It dont matter. You are just completing a circuit. Just make sure your power is fused.

Read thru the "Briter Lites" thread and find my "Briter Lites - recap" post for the solution to your problem. You only need to jump out the fog lite relay to fix this and not spend another dime. If you paid $65 for the first harness, well... you paid enough already.

ON EDIT-I linked the threads above!
