Briter Lites - Recap
Briter Lites - Recap
This morning was the 1st time since installing the "kit" that I needed to use the headlights while driving the 3500. I noticed something strange when I turned on the fogs as the hi beam indicator was dimly glowing. Also someone flashed their beams but I didn't think anything of it until I noticed the light pattern on the car ahead. I shut off the fogs until I got to my destination and a quick check verified that the hi beams were coming on with the fog lites.
As it turned out, with the engine running and the alternator pumping out 14.2VDC, the fog relay and the Summit hi beam relay can turn on in series. The normal operation of the fog lite relay is for the ground path thru the hi beam filament. Of course the new relay coil now takes the place of the filament.
It does not happen at straight battery voltage (12.6??)
The fix, thanks to Thomas over at TDR was to jump out the fog light relay thus disabling the hi beam ON / fog OFF function.
Figured I'd post this in case anyone else has this problem.
