Cab light install
I installed cab lights on my truck on Monday. They look great. I don't see how 3/4 ton and 1 ton owners can stand not to have them on their trucks. Something just looks missing. Well anyways, I bought the kit from the dealer after a few snaffoos (I had to give them a part number because he couldn't find it) Nice kit, came with a wire harness, connectors, wire ties, bulbs, lenses, and a stupid installation sheet written by a Yugo mechanic! ( no offense Scotty) The template was great, lined them up just perfectly, But when it came to wiring, uh oh watch out
. It said on the sheet. to put the wire in the #8 cavity of the connector supplied and plug it into the back of the "juction block", or if you have the overhead console, which I do, to take the 14 pin connector already there out of the "junction block" and insert the hot wire into the #8 cavity. Sounds simple enough right, wrong. After 5 hours of tearing my dash apart, crawling in places a fat boy should not, and reading ever manual I got, I gave up! I could not find anything that resembled a 14 pin connector that I can insert the hot wire into the #8 cavity . So i got my trusty ole volt meter out and found a wire that was hot when the head lights came on and was not dimmable. I found one in the harness that goes to the over head console. I wish I knew that before I ran that stupid wire down the A-pillar.
Well anyway, I had to vent. The lights look great, I'm very happy with them, but I'm keeping an eye on them. I dont know if that wire I found in the harness is big enough for the job. So far so good.

i wouldnt waste ur money on takin ur truck to the body shop thats going to cost alot of money for them to do that!! i put mine on my truck in 45 mins to 1hr wasnt hard at all!! only problem was finding a wire like Wagontrain said! very simple and easy!!
Drilling holes in the roof wasn't a problem. The template provided is excellent. Just take your time and line it up right. Three holes per light, and the gromets to fill them are included. Not a bad kit, just the wiring instrution sucks!!! You dont even have to take the whole headliner out. If you are careful you can just pull down the front, Gives you plenty of space to work.

00turbo ....... its a piece of cake... trust me.... i also used the factory kit. when i wired mine though i ran the power wire through the firewall and tied it into my running lights on the driver side. piece of cake. only thing i dont like about the set up is the little plastic inserts that the screws go into. havent had to replace a bulb yet ( knock on wood ) but i sure hope those inserts dont spin when i try and take the screws out what a pain that will be scott

The part number I used was : 82205120. But that is for my year of truck. I think they changed design somewhere around 2001. Pictures, we dont need no stinking pictures. Sorry I didn't take any

im assuming that i hooked mine up the the dimmer switch or whatever wire that has to do with the dimmer switch cause i can make the cab light really bright or very dimm
i didnt notice this till about 3 months after i did this setting in the parking lot waiting for the truck to warm up a bit and someone came by and asked y my lights were really dim. i couldnt figure out what the heck was going on!!! till i started playing with my switch
its pretty cool though

i've never used a template to mount the cab lights. once you take off headliner there are 5 holes that just happen to be where the factory lights would have went i just drill up through those. as far as wiring i run tne wire down the pillar to the headlight switch and splice it into the parking light wire.
You talking about the 5 DOT "cab clearance" lights? All 1-ton owners have 'em... My humble opinion..as long as you have a diesel under the hood, it's OK.. On a 1/2 ton, you're just trying to pretend that you had a bigger truck..
