Boost Gauge Connection?

On my 24v, where do I connect the boost gauge? I got the pillar installed and all of the gauges in there, and the wiring for the back lights. Tomorrow I will drill the manifold and plug the wires in (didn't have any fuse taps). I saw a diagram for the 12v boost gauge, but I haven't found one for the 24v. I'm pretty sure this has been discussed before but once again, the search found nothing.

Any opinions on which side of the filter to put the fuel pressure gauge? I was planning on putting it after the filter. Are you guys running electric or mechanical fuel pressure gauges? I got a mechanical, with isolator.

I did find out that someone tapped into about 8 wires going up the column to the ignition switch. that is annoying. I cannot believe someone would tap those wires with those Scotch Lock things.

Thanks,
Chris

Re:Boost Gauge Connection?

Theres 2 easy ways to do this. If you look to the rear of the fuel filter theres a 3/4 plug going into the bottom section of the intake. go to any hardware store and reduce it down to your fitting. ( this is the main boost test port) or use a PDR bolt into the 4th bolt back on the inside (near #4 fuel line)
Good Luck with the install, if your not taking the turbo off for the drill, A shopvac at the drill bit tip works great also
Danny

If you're not afraid to drill a hole in your truck you can mount your where I mounted mine.

I drilled and tapped the intake horn right under where the dipstick mounts. I routed the boostline up the under side of the dipstick and into the intake horn. It's almost invisible unless you know what your looking for. 8)

DB

Re:Boost Gauge Connection?

I mounted mine in the 3/4 inch plug area behind the fuel filter. Got the items needed to adapt to the boost tube from napa. Went very smoothly!

Thanks for the info.
And I'd rather not be drilling on the intake. I can handle a few shavings I might miss being spit through the turbo, but I don't want anything going through the cylinders.

Thanks,
Chris

Hey Stamey,
I put mine in the 3/4" hole also. I was lucky enough to find a SS reducer which went from the 3/4" down to 1/8" in one adapter. (friend who is an instument mech got it for me). It took just a few minutes to install. Didn't even get my hands dirty! ;D

Darrell that's how I plumbed mine too.
Drilling and tapping a hole in the exhaust manifold......that one gave me the *******.
But all turned out 8).

Re:Boost Gauge Connection?

Thanks guys, for all the info. I used the 3/4 fitting behind the fuel filter. I did not think to get the reducer that goes all the way to 1/8, but the 2 reducers isn't too bad.

Thanks,
Chris

I'll be doing the boost gauge installation connection today and it sure don't look like an easy stretch. Spent approximately 7 hours yesterday running wires and lines and mounting this and that for the Rod Pod installation. 4 gauge installation. EGT, Fuel Pressure (mechanical), Boost, and Trans Temp. I have the crossover line with port and stainless steel flex connector that DTT offers for the Trans Temp but won't install that line. DTT is going to do it for me when they work their magic on my tranny upgrade. ;D. Today, I'll make the actual connections to various points and hook up the power. I have one question: Do I need to put pipe dope or tape on some of these attachments (like the fuel line)? I have both dope and tape. For all the instructions floating around, they never mention that little item.

~Dave

Re:Boost Gauge Connection?

Dave,
I saw where someone recommended using "Teflon Paste", which I picked up an Napa when I was getting brass fitttings for tapping the fuel pressure test port. It was also recommended I just use a "little", so I just put enough on there to cost the threads and made sure there was none on the bottom (the part that faces in) because I didn't want anything getting into my injectors.
The 3/4 plug wasn't too difficult to get out. I just had to use a 1/2 drive ratchet, with a 4 foot pipe on it, and 5 inches worth of extension (to get it out past the filter so I could swing it). It took that 4 foot pipe to break it loose. I could then remove it easily.
The hard part I raninto was getting my thick-walled 1 1/16 socket over the brass fitting to tighten it back up once I had pre-assembled the other 2 adapters to bring it down to the compression fitting used for the boost gauge. The sicket interfered with the plate or intake (whatever it is) immediately above the plug because the socket wall was so thick.

Chris

Re:Boost Gauge Connection?

Oh yeah, 4 hours Friday to get the 3 gauges (boost, EGT, Fuel pressure) installed and wires/hoses run through the firewall (with the convenient hole already there). Another 4 hours or so to get the wires/hoses run to their proper locations and connected, including 3 trips to Napa for mini fuse tapes and various brass fittings.

Chris

I didn't have anywhere near the tuff time that Stamey had getting the plug out,,,, I guess I got lucky! ;D However, I did take my time on the rest of the hook-ups. I did make up a wiring harness with all the neccessary connections before installing. Like Stamey stated,,, that hole in the firewall sure made things easier. I've been real happy with the gauges since they've been in for almost a year now. ;D

Re:Boost Gauge Connection?

My plug just broke loose with a regular socket handle and a 4" extension. Didn't need a "breaker" bar. Age difference in trucks obviously. Every thing is together now, pleased as punch. Waiting for dark to look at the gauges.

~Dave
