boost elbow?

I am installing an edge comp in my truck right now and I am stuck on the boost elbow. The instructions say it is in the front lower part of the turbo but there is nothing there.
Please Help!
Thanks...

Re:boost elbow?

The elbow is not for the HY-35 that comes on the auto's. It is only for the HX-35 with the manuals. Do some research on the Turbo Master or the cheaper turn buckle.

Re:boost elbow?

So, does that mean I don't need it at all? I just took it for a spin and holy sh%@ it is fast as hell! My fiance's truck is a 99 and it is also an auto but it DOES have a fitting in the turbo. Is the auto turbo in the 99 the same as a standard turbo in an 01?

Re:boost elbow?

Your truck will run with out it so you dont NEED it but it will run better with what its supposed to give your engine and thats more boost. You have to use a turnbuckle from a hardware store or check out the Turbo Master (cant remember web site). Maybe someone will show you. Ask guys about the turnbuckle. Lots of guys use that method.

Re:boost elbow?

Ah, did a search and finally came up with something. Ordered the turbo master. Seems like the best (safest) thing to do so I will still have some boost limits but be able to push 30lbs.
Thanks a lot for the help all!
I can't imagine the power it will have with more boost also!

Will the additional boost lower my egts also? It hit 1400 with not much load when I stomped on it.

Re:boost elbow?

You won't really pick up any power but you will loose EGT.

Re:boost elbow?

I cannot get my egt's above 1100 with my EZ and the turnbuckle, even when towing my 5th wheel. I am maxing out at about 30 lbs boost.

Is that pre turbo???
I can hit 1400 no problem if I mash the throttle. Pre-turbo.

Re:boost elbow?

I also have the EZ and could not install the boost elbow on my truck. What is the Turbo Master? I know Banks has a "Big Head" that will fit my turbo, which way is the best and easiest to go?

Just trying to lower my EGT's some while towing.

Thanks.

Re:boost elbow?

I would get a turbo master or do a turnbuckle you need to keep that gate closed to get 30lbs of boost. ;D

Re:boost elbow?

Yes, the 1,100 is pre turbo. The increased boost made a HUGE difference in my egt's. I have the turnbuckle installed tight on my turbo, that is how I am getting 30 lbs, the wastegate cannot open at all I assume. The Turbo Master looks like a good product, it replaces some of the hardware on the wastegate system, retarding the opening of the wastegate to achieve higher boost. It it also adjustable. I think the only way to adjust the turnbuckle system would be to attach a spring, because if you just loosened the turnbuckle, it would fall off. Finally, don't just install a turnbuckle or boost elbow without a boost fooler or a fueling box with a boost fooler or the engine will throw a code.

Re:boost elbow?

I bought a $1.35 turnbuckle today and spent a whole 5 minutes installing it like the pic on Edges website shows. Very easy to do and without a load I picked up 6 pounds of boost (up to 26) just driving down the road.

I will see how well it lowers my EGT's next time I tow the 5er, which will also be after the tranny mods.
