BHAF to K&N Compared

I've been running an open element K&N filter for awhile now and have liked it. It is about 7" in diameter and 9" long. It is the filter that comes with the BD-Power X-Stream filter system. Nice unit, but not worth the dollars you pay for it.
With all the threads lately about the BHAF, I converted.
HUGE difference!!!!
After converting, I have less smoke, less noise :'(, truck seems to pull a little harder about mid range, and most of all, I had about a 75-100 degree drop in EGT!!! Not sure on mileage just yet, but it seems to be slightly better, I'll know for sure when I refuel.

I would never have guessed that it would make such a difference. Next step is a Scotty though.

Just thought I'd let you guys know.

Hey HeberRam

I already have the hole saw and even now, I'm tempted to cut the hole!! I'm sure that even with a BHAF, drilling the hole will be an added benefit with regards to more air at least around the filter.

Homstead...You may want to check with scotty, or some other members, exactly where the hole goes, so when you get the Scotty 11, you won't be trying to plumb through the fender..

hello,
i have been running a K&N for about one year now and it seems to do pretty well. i need your advice on BHAF instead of K&N. will the BHAF void warranty? is it a drop in filter like the K&N? throw it away when dirty or wash? how often should i change it out? who likes the K&N and who likes the BHAF?

thanks,
david h

Re:BHAF to K&N Compared

I've got an open element K&N, and I've never had a problem with it. People have said they've had oil on their turbo blades, but If you oil it properly and let it drain the excess off, its fine. I will probably go to a scotty II later because it's a better design than just the open K&N.
