Bhaf Installed
Has anyone run the K+N E-1796? My local autozone had one for about 55 bucks. Looked like a 4" inlet, about 7-8" in diameter and probably 10" long or so.
I'm gonna do some research on that filter right now.

Two quick points. If you run a oiled drop-in filter, pull the intake hose off the turbo and check for oily grime on the turbo blades and silencer ring. What you find there is what you are putting through the engine. That grime is what promped me to search for and find the first BHAF back in 01, (should have copyrighted that name LOL) .
On the BHAF install, be sure to cover the ac line that's now under the closed end of the filter with something, a 10" or so piece of split heater hose, water hose or something. Otherwise the filter may rub a hole in it.
Two last points, do something with the mounting bolts for the stock filter housing. I drive them down throught the fender on my trucks. On others I pull the plastic nuts off the factory box and install upside down on the studs to keep them from wearing a hole in the BHAF.
I'm a firm beliver in installing a 1 or 2" long piece of 4" exhaust tubing in the filter neck to prevent the clamp from deforming the filter neck causing a leak.

From what i noticed when i had the K&N FIPK was the dirt and oil on my turbo blades. What happens is the vacuum created by the turbo sucking so hard is it sucks all the oil off of the filter and lets dirt in. That's why most people will say to stay away from the oiled filters. So i sold my K&N on Ebay and bought the BHAF and had money left over. The template for the heat shield can be had off the tech section in the 24v part.

I was not happy with my bhaf, the egt's were too high for my liking, a 4" down pipe would help some too. I switched back to the stock box and egt's dropped so now I can keep pouring the coal up the big hills although I do have to let off some near the tops. There is a intake from some Calif. company that looks very interesting, it has a long straight tube which comes from the front bumper or grill area and the filter is close to the bhaf size and is in a cylindrical housing. I can't find it now but is saved on my work computer and I won't be back there for another week, I love working for a college
