BD twins

Well there is a very very slight chance that a set of BD twins could be in my budget in the next couple of months. So I am trying to get a feel for who has them how good they work, are they reliable and what kind of power can I put to them. Also the turbo techs at BD say that all I would need is head studs to run these turbos at 50psi. Due to the fact that the way they are engineered together there is less drive pressure than with a large single. Thoughts opinions and comments. Did a search through all the old forums and didn't find enough details to convince me that this would or wouldn't work for me. If nobody has some good insight It will either be back to the single or take a gamble if funds do allow it. Thanks as allways guys. Every product that I have bought has been based on your opinions and all the expectations have been met or exceeded and I am quite pleased with my truck I just want to be able to use all that fuel now. I have never floored it on anything over PL04 and that was only a quick tap on the freeway as my boost hit 40 like nothing and the egts were risising way to fast for my comfort. Don't want a blown headgasket yet.(the studs still aren't in) I have hit the floor once or twice in third and fourth on PL10 and all I could spit out before I could let off because of the same reasons above was shh. Thats it couldn't even finish the word the truck jumped so hard. Thanks as always guys I appreciate all the info I can get.

Head gaskets are easy, I've done three in the last six weeks. You should be good for 50psi with studs, should. How are you planning on installing the studs? The real benefits of twins come once you push past 50psi of boost. The BD that I heard of are based on S300 series turbo so its good stuff. HO trucks have more cylinder pressure than SO trucks (higher compression ratio). The HO injection pump don't have the top end as the SO pump, so you might not be able to make much more than 50psi anyways. I can believe the drive pressure story, but they are talking about stock turbos or their slightly bigger super B turbos. Most singles drive pressures aren't that bad until you start pushing up its pressure ratios, so you should be fine either way to 50psi. BD should put a S400 on the primary, then you have a sweet set-up and forget about the S300, IMO. On the twins watch on how the wastegates are set-up. If they are set too high, your egt's (drive pressure) will be as high as well, so of course BD told you that too. Reason for that your running just on a small secondary and not using the primary to help.

I have a set of BD tow twins on my truck. You will have to watch your foot to keep from hitting 50psi of boost. I can hit 60+ pretty effortlessly. Mods are HRVP-44, Mach 5's, Smarty, TSTCE... I can touch upper 50's without the TST even in the mix.

Anyhow, they drive very well at lower power levels... stock H.O. pump and DD3's... they build boost much like a stock turbo at low boost levels and once the bottom turbo winds up, it's katy bar the door. I've been pleased and can't see myself going back to a single turbo.

I love mine to death but I wish I would have gotten the R700's instead.
