I have a BD short shift and love it.... Lot less travel and easier on the arm not having to row big rig style!!

I'm hoping it moves the shifter closer to me and away from the passenger side some too. I read that someplace.

I've heard that it shifts into gear a little firmer. It doesn't make it hard to get into gear does it?

No its not harder to get in gear!
I Love mine! Great Quality part! Just make sure you periodicly retorque the bolts in the housing! It dose move it over some, gives much firmer shifts! Overall Great Product! You may not even realize how loose or wore out your factory shifter is till you install this product!

You will lose some of the mechanical advantage going to the BD shifter, that's why the throw is shorter.... Not enough to sway me away from the idea of 20% shorter throw though...

I drag race the truck so I'm looking at if it's enough of a benifit to out weigh the cost. I don't want the shifts to be too hard because that woud slow me down too.

Definitly worth the $$ for the drag race... You wont have any problems shifting it... Just takes a bit more force because of the design.. not too hard by any means... Mine is sometimes but I don't think my tranny knows what a syncro is

125,000 miles and still shifting fine.

I drove a buddies stock shifter struck the other day and was a little amazed at the "rowing" you had to do compared to the short shift. It's been a long time and I totally forgot the difference.

i like mine...except i broke it 3 times. 3rd time i bought a new one instead of welding it. i cant see how it moves the shifter closer to you but it may (my truck came with it, never had a stock shifter)

also if you really wanna change how it shifts, get rid of the stock shifter and make yourself a rod that threads onto the shift lever, or invest in the SRT-10 shifter kit...it eliminates the stock rubber mount at the base of the shifter...this takes so much play out of the shifts its unbelievable.

Maybe I'm missing something. When I looked a BD's website last week the shortshifter wasn't available for NV4500 5sp (yet), just the NV5600 6sp.

No, it's out for 98-up NV4500's...the older tranny's top cover is different!

I had one way back when I had the NV4500 in my 95...didn't really like it with the DD clutch, just a little notchy. I put it in my brother's Chevy gasser with a single disc and loved the way it shifted.

Don't get me wrong, I like the way it shift in my Dodge with the DD clutch, but every once in a while when I was racing, I would miss 5th. Never did this without it.

Still a worthwhile BOMB, but while you're at it, bend a shifter up that move it back and closer towards you, and you'll really love it
