Short Shift Kit

I am wondering about a short shift kit for the 6spd. I know about the BD kit but are there any others? I need to go fast sometimes... but it seems like it would be good for towing when you want to shift fast and keep your speed up. Thanks for any info.

The short shift kit does NOT make your shifts any faster, only shorter.

True...but if your shift happens to be limited by a slow hand, then a shorter shift distance could yield a quicker shift.

shift

As said before the shift is shorter not guicker, you still have to wait for the engine unless you want to slip the clutch.

Isn't a clutch made for slipping?

Ok, I feel better now. I was thinking that too.

Thanks for the cautions. I know there's no gaurantee of a faster shift and the driver is still the one who really desides the speed. Does anyone have some personal experience with one of these kits?

I have the BD kit on my 6spd 03. Although a bit expensive, I found it worth it. If you purchase, be sure you have a 10mm 4" extension to remove the shifter console, and I'd recommend some of that hi temp copper silicone stuff to seal up the short shifter tower. Give it about an hour to install.

I installed mine shortly after I bought the truck. The instructions leave a little to be desired but if you have any mechanical know-how, it is not too bad to install.
It is extremely important that you clean all faying surfaces very well and then apply a good quality gasket maker or I guarantee it will leak.
It works OK and I have had no problems with it. I keep my elbow on the center consul and then using my wrist only, go thru all the gears.

I know it ain't the same, but we put one in the vette and it made a world of difference. Before we were blowing synchros left and right (so much for internal stops). Afterwards, haven't had a problem. I've heard of some people complaining of notchiness with the BD shifter. Don't know much about it but thought I'd give ya a heads up.
