Thumbs up Just installed BD short shift kit

Ordered from Geno's - $215 bucks including shipping. I installed it Thursday.. very easy. Kit consists of an aluminum spacer block, new shifter base ( the thing that has the higher pivot ball and the rod that goes down into the trans which the stick screws onto and is covered by the boot), 4 longer bolts, instructions, tube of sealant and a sticker.

Basically this kit moves the pivot point on the shifter upwards and changes the geometry of the shifter to shorten the throw. As a side effect it changes the "feel" of the shifter, it is much tighter with a more positve feel.

I bought the kit because I had read that it makes consistently hitting 5th gear easier, which has been a constant problem and I've not liked the feel of the stock shifter since I bought the truck. I've driven manual trans trucks since I learned to drive, including medium duty trucks on a regular basis. But the crappy stock Dodge shifter often caused me to miss up-shiting to 5th gear. When down-shifting and turning a corner at the sametime it was real easy to miss the proper shift gate and go 5th to 2nd instead of 4th. Most of this is because the springs that center the shiter in neutral are so heavy and the feel of the shifter is vauge.

Well IMO, this thing makes driving the 6-speed so much better. The new shifter not only makes the throw shorter, it also takes out the slop and tightens up the feel of the shifter, it has a more positive tight feel and makes the gates easier to find when rowing the gears. With more leverage on the stick it makes the centering spring much easier to overcome and get hit the shift gates.

After driving it a little it occured to me this is how it should have been from the factory. This is the most satisfying mod I've made, worth every penny.

BTW, the short shift kit shortens the throw of the shifter to engage the gears not the length of the shifter handle... length stays the same.

I've been thinking of doing this myself - Does the kit move the position of the stick a little toward you??

I don't think so, but I couldn't really say because I had put a little bend in my shifter before putting this kit in.

I unscrewed the shifter and used a torch to heat the shifter and gave it a little bend close to the threaded end where the shift boot would cover it, hit it with a can of black paint to ward off rust and reinstalled... it just felt like it was a little far away.

I couldn't tell the kit moved it any closer than it was.
