Extended cab short box or short box reg cab
I have wanted to do this kind of a custom rig for years and I know where I can get a good 4x4 1st gen frame with the diffs still on it not to much rust and I want to drop a extended cab on it and a short box the frame is a reg cab long box will this work if any of you have done it please chime in I know there was a guy in diesel world who did it but he chopped the frame I would prefer to just bolt the body on no cutting involved thanks again guys

I've been making my truck an extended cab. It's a 30" extension. Not a easy job.

Well I think my plan is a wee bit more simple just swap a different cab and box on and of course install a engine tranny and all the other good stuff

folks will correct me if i'm wrong here, but to do what you're talking about, putting a ext cab on a RC frame, would require either a body lift, or cutting of the floor of the ext cab portion of the ext cab. The reason for this is that the frame has a kick up in it after the cab and it would interfer w/ the cab itself, short bed should line up fine w/ the frame mounts, etc.
fellas run in to this conundrum quite a bit as far as deciding wether to put a crew cab body on an ext cab/lb frame as opposed to leaving it on the original frame. the kick up in the frame interfers w/ the rear of the cab floor.
If it were me, i'd find you a 70s or 80s rc/sb or ec/sb and just put the motor in there instead of swapping bodies over. JMHO.

grow a pair and go do this
Then after saying, dang, I just cut my truck in half, put it back together kind of like this
Here is a very clean truck which fueled my desire for cutting mine up
RCSB is neat too

If I had to choose for...
Practicality....... An extended cab, with the short box.
If I had to choose simply based upon looks.... Regular cab and short box
If I was building a snow plow vehicle ?
Regular cab with short box.
I guess it all depends on what you want the truck for.

I was thinking there might be a issue with the frame bumping up wasn't sure though and as to cutting a frame in two I wonder how strong it would be with the weld? I work at a welding shop but unless its done right it can go wrong I am pretty dang sure
