Go to the link and read up on the switch. It is not good to let it shift in lockup unless you have a spare billet shaft on hand.

Dave from Goerands told me to never leave the switch in the locked postion untill it locks up in OD itself. He said its not good for the trans to sift with the convertor locked, even tho many seems like they do when it shifts from 3rd to OD... he says it will unlock before it does, even if it is only for a millisec. Once its locked up in OD he says flip the switch and leave it on till you slow down.

I've never actually used it yet. lol... I just put it in my sig. But the only time I plan on using it is during a steep decline. Like when coming down a mountain road with the camper on. I gotta learn a little more about it though. According to DTT, exhaust brakes will shorten the life of the tranny because of the locked tc. I don't have an exhaust brake but I assume that using the lock-up switch to reduce speed will still have somewhat harmful effects on the tranny.
I've been using my ATS tranny in lockup, with the Commander to adjust lockup speed, for several years. It locks up in second and stays locked up through third and OD, then manually shifting down to 3rd and 2nd with the exhaust brake on until the Commander unlocks it. Tranny works as well now as when new off the shelf from ATS, and my exhaust brake is mandatory in the mountains. In many years of reading this forum, I've never heard that an exhaust brake would harm a tranny.
I'm suprised that Goerend and DTT advise against this kind of operation, because many trucks are driven this way, and their transmissions have a good reputation for reliability.

Working or not, it is harder on almost everything to shift locked up...on my DTT, locked or unlocked doesn't bother me, the fluid coupling is tight enough that by the time I'm up to speed, I don't notice anything but engine sound changing hen it locks!
On the looser triple disc converters, locking the converter is where they get the power to the ground!
In my opinion!

I don't think driving NORMAL and EASY will hurt anything while locked. Maybe it will......
But driving like you stole the truck, or dragging, or sled pulling while locked; well I can see damage happening.
Does anyone have any more input for or against........

I only run with the converter locked when I am racing or having fun
Otherwise I dont think it is going to help fuel mileage any, and I dont see how it could be real good on the transmission. Honestly I dont like the ATS commander. It wont lock at a really low speed, and it costs a lot. My lockup switch does fine for me.
