Angry Ats Tranny Problems

I have a 97 dodge with ats tranny. While driving through town going through stop lights it takes off in 2nd gear insead of dropping to 1st. If i turn the truck off and then back on again it will take off in first for a couple times then goes back to taking off in 2nd again???????

there are who sensors in the tranny, take the pan off you will see them, they are the culprit usually for 2nd gear take off. someone will chime in with the sensor names. i had to replace them on my truck the hardest part was pulling the pan off

Mine will do that occasionally if the truck is cold so I have to pull it down into first manually and then it's fine once it warms up. I've never really checked into why that happens but those sensors would be the first place I'd look.

Governor pressure solenoid.
They cost about 200 bucks, and you should have gotten a new one when the tranny was built. When one goes out, it is often times a precursor to bigger problems.

Dunno bout that. I had a governor pressure solenoid go out on my stock trans at 20k miles and it was replaced and I put 118k abusive miles (about 20k of those were over 450hp with another 60k over 350hp) on it with no issues.

I didnt say every time, just often times. Mine took a crap shortly before the tranny puked. They can be taken out as a result of crap (clutch material, ect) in the fluid.

It sounds relatively easy, give Clint a call and they should be able to fix you right up.
