Two different things here.
Defueling is what the computer does if you go over boost- above21-22 psi. Most boxes have this covered.
At low throttle and in OD the computer derates the power to save transmissions and clutches. I believe this is correct.

What you really want, to power brake, is a Catcher/Smarty.
You will have the power at off idle and all thru the rpm range. Drivabillity is great.
One more thing, if you want to do smoky burnouts, be careful if you have the rear discs. You should get a line lock, to keep the rear brakes from applying for a burn out.

The rear disc's hold more than drums. You can still do burn outs but it is real bad for the pads.
A line-lock is a electric sileniod that locks the brake pressure after you press the pedal. If installed correctly it only hold the front , so you can easily spin the rears.

With the "CATCHER" I don't need to powerbrake to spin wheels from takeoff. If I do a powerbrake(only tried it twice), it is an absolutely wild black smoke, and tire smoke show.

The device you I think you are referring to is the "BD Anti-Defueling Device",
which used to be called the the "BD R.A.D. Device"; short for: "Rapid Anti-Defueler."

Most all of the 24 valve Dodge trucks with the automatics will "defuel" between the 1st and second gear shift if you are trying to accelerate hard. It feels like the truck "runs out of fuel" for a second, then will pick back up when the RPM's drop off some.

My 2002 Dodge CTD 24 valve did it REAL BAD every time I tried to drag race.
The BD Device eliminates the "defuel" by basically overriding the VSS and torque sensing systems in the electronics. My early "BD RAD Device" is a three position switch, green which leaves the truck like stock, yellow which overrides the rev limiter at top end (to let you go faster than 113 MPH) and red which overrides the "torque sensing electronics" allowing the truck to shift from 1st to second gear WITHOUT DEFUELING! BD has changed this device up somewhat and now I believe there are just two positions. I am running a TST PM 3 (Competition) "stacked" with an Edge EZ and my truck still defueled with those boxes before I installed the BD RAD Device!
Here is BD's website and phone number for you if you are interested:
www.dieselperformance.com; 1-800-887-5030.

The device "works as advertised" and I love having mine especially at the dragstrip!

Hope this has helped you some.

John,
I'm still trying to get enough $$$ so my crappy ride will do 1/4 of what your old truck would do . I will never forget "MY RIDE" in it. I was all after it too!
