am i on the right track?
am i on the right track?
Ok im slowly bomb'ing my truck but im not doing anything serious untill i can adress my tranny. I'm just wondering if i am on the right track with my current or soon to be current mods? So far i have done or either they are being shipped as we speak.
Edge EZ, SuperChips Micro Tuner, gauges (boost, pyro, FP), Scotty II, 4in Dual exhaust with straight through muffler, and i installed a shift kit on my truck when i had the tranny rebuilt. I couldn't afford a beefy tranny at the time because of lack of money and i had to have my truck back ASAP.
Is there anything i can do to my truck right know that wont mess up my tranny?
could i benefit from a Max flow kit from Rod? Banjos? or should i save my money and get the FASS system?
I plan on getting a tranny next then a set of some what mild injectors and a EDGE Comp box. I'm hoping to get around or over 400 HP in the next year or so or should i say as soon as money permits me too.
I know my current mods are not hard core so dont flame.
Also if yall see something wrong with my ideas let me know.
Thanks!

If you have the Edge EZ what are you using the supperchips for?
If you are stacking them you are probably getting too much timing. I tried this a while back until I started getting the P-0216 code. I took off the superchips and have not gotten the code since. If you don’t know that code it’s the code of death for the VP-44 (injector pump).
To get the 400 hp the Edge Comp is good with a set of Formula 1 EDM Mach 2s. http://www.f1diesel.com/injectors24.html here is the dealer’s http://www.f1diesel.com/contacts.html
Just be aware you might need to upgrade the turbo, at 400hp you are pushing the limit of your HX-35. The Scotty II will help keep the egts down. I’ll let the guys with the FASS system talk about that, but at least get the Max flow kit. It will help keep your VP-44 from dieing especially if you are going to pierce the pump wire with the Comp.
You might want to consider a tranny temp gauge also. If you go with an upgraded torque converter you will need it. The lower speed T.C. will start to heat up when you get into stop and go traffic.
When you do the tranny you want to get the lower speed torque converter to get the truck shifting down in the torque curve. There are 4 main tranny companies that really know our trucks. Here are some links to get you started. Do your homework; this is not a place to go cheap. It will be no use to spend a lot of money making a lot of horsepower and torque if you can’t get it to the ground. Find what works for you and go for it.

When i get the money to do my tranny im takin it to Garmons Diesel. He is about 45 minutes away and a couple guys i know take there truck there and one of them is pushing right at 710 Hp on the dyno and i must say his truck is sweet! The other 2 guys i know are at 410 HP and a little over 500 HP so i know if i take it to him he will know what i need to get. Also he carries the suncoast trannys.
The reason i have the Superchips is because i bought it first a long time ago and i just recently recieved my EDGE EZ. I'm thinking about buying the Max Flow kit but if i get that will i still be able to use it when i get my FASS system? I'm new to the Diesel world sorry, but im loving every minute of it!!!
Thanks for the links and your help!

I think you will be satisfied with the Suncoast stuff. I had mine done back in January and so far it has performed as advertised.
I don’t know what all is with the FASS system so I will let those who know speak on that. What ever you do you want to open the lines to the VP-44 it uses the extra fuel for lubrication and cooling (the more flow here the better).
For the turbo you might want to talk to Rod at Wildcat Diesel http://www.wildcatdiesel.com/ about their B1. That sounds like it would be right for where you want to be with your horsepower. I’m no expert so you might want to get some input from some of the guys that are in that HP range.
Good Luck.

No reason the FASS won't work with Wildcats Max Flow system...but I don't think you will need both under 450 hp. I can't pull my FP below 10 at max setting on my TST PM3.
I would go with the full Max Flow system, not just the Banjos. Many have said they saw very little increase in fuel flow with just the banjos and I don't think they would be enough for 400+ hp.
If your tranny is a stock rebuild(?) the EZ is as far as I would go, especially with your wheel/tire combo. Any more HP could cause trouble that will add to cost of your "beefy tranny".
For turbos, on an automatic (think you have an HY-35), can't beat the B-1 's. Need to decide what hp your aiming for and how you feel about spoolup/smoke before you choose.
Check out this thread, then talk to Rod at Wildcat....

A PDR HX40 should be a good little turbo for around 400 hp. If not, then definately a KSB1-B. Instead of the Edge Comp, I'd go for the TST PM3 Comp with remote and stack that with your edge EZ. Several people have done this and really enjoy the benefits. The TST adds the fuel and the EZ adds the timing. As far as trannies, you can't go wrong with any of those companies. I personally would go with DTT because they have basically completely redesigned the 47re and are constantly upgrading it. For fuel systems, if you have the money, the FASS can't be beat. If not, then the Max flow kit with a holley red/stock lift pump combo will be your best bet. Contact Merrick at www.laredoperformancediesel.com or Rod at www.wildcatdiesel.com if you have any other questions.
