My SO came with a 241DHD (it now has a 271 in it). If I remember correctly it was included with the trailer tow package.

My CTD has Trailer Tow Group and Special Camper Group.... but no HD Transfer Case? At least the 'Build Sheet' just says 241. Product code was DHHS?

It will have a round tag on the back of the transfer case above the hex plug drain and fills that will say which one it is. Mine is the 241D HD.

That's exciting! It's either my transfer case or my Dana 70 that has no tag on it. Probably the rear end .... after adding the Mag Hy-Tec.

Will have to clean it off and check. Just always assumed my 'factory build sheet' was the gospel.

Did a search and found this quote from 'Got Diesel'...... Thought it was worth revisiting... RJ

"There is a 241DLD and a 241 DHD, both of which can be found in our years. I have researched this and found that they are still both Heavy Duties, but the DLD has no PTO provision, and DHD does. The DHD consequently has a touch heavier gear becasue of the PTO provision. I have had my 241DLD apart recently to upgrade the head gear for a manual conversion, and through a few years of heavy power, stall launches, full 4X4 drags, big tires so on and so on, everything looked absolutely brand new. Even the chain was tight as can be. I was going to upgrade to a 271, but when this one has done me right, I'll leave it alone.

They only have one little flaw, and that's the output shaft bearing retaining snap ring. They tend to break, allowing the shaft to walk inwards, which can be damaging. There is a fix available at any trans/tcase shop that will rectify this, and all that is needed to be taken apart is driveline removal and output housing removal.
Good luck and don't worry about DLD's."

I wouldn't worry about the transfer case either.

My 241DHD lasted about 600 1/4 mile passes, and then started putting "glitter" into the fluid. It never did fail, but "glitter" is never a good sign. I replaced the 241DHD with a 271. One thing I did like about the 241DHD over the 271, is that it held more fluid. 271 is by far stronger though.
