Advice on injectors

Hi all,

I'm considering some new injectors. My truck currently has stock injectors, stock dv's, tst #8 plate, 4k gsk, bhaf, straight pipe. Besides getting more power, my main concern is that I not lose fuel economy (assuming I keep my driving the same). I don't want something that's gonna cost me mileage at a given steady road speed. Now, if I get to driving like an idiot with the extra power, that's different. Smoke isn't much of a concern, as long as I can get rid of most of it by driving gently. I don't want lots of smoke that can't be reasonably eliminated. If it smokes like hell when I hammer it, that's a plus. This truck is my daily driver, if that matters.

With all that said, what would you guys recommend?

With what you just said, 370's and a new clutch. That and a spring kit. That and a spring kit and 24 degrees on the timings. That, a spring kit, 24 degrees of timing and where will you stop?

..PT..

24 degrees on the timing? I don't think so. It's at 16 or 16.5 now, and that's enough for me. I've never even heard of anyone running their timing much past 18.

I have not seen 16 since my truck was new. 332K miles at 24 degrees. Most out of our shop is at 25. The race trucks, 35-45.

Just my opinion, Diesel Dynamics sells a good injector.

Well, I've gone and ordered a set of Pier's 370's. I've seen some stuff about them being matched as a set, and being better for our trucks than other types of 370's.

You will love the 370's. You already have the largest stock DV's so that won't be a problem (the 160 HP pumps will stumble with the 370's). The smoke they will make is very controllable with your right foot. You may be looking for a turbo upgrade though, if you really like to drive it hard so watch your EGT's. Let us know how they work for you. Oh yea, start to budget for a new clutch.

Ok folks, I put them in yesterday. They work fine, except for one thing I'll get to in a minute. The power difference is about what I expected-the truck now accelerates noticeably harder, and at around 2200 rpm, where it seems to pull hardest, it'll make the front of the truck lift slightly on the suspension. This is certainly not normal behavior for diesel trucks of any size. Kinda hard to erase the grin from my face. I went out hunting for imports last night with the buddy that helped me put the injectors in, but we ended up hanging out with some guys we ran across that we know.

Here's the problem: It wants to act like I'm tapping the accelerator lightly. It normally happens when I'm driving normally. It seems to be "hunting" in how much fuel it delivers at low throttle positions, which gets it bouncing back and forth against the drivetrain slack. Very annoying. When I advanced the timing to 16 degrees and slid the #8 plate all the way forward, it started to do this a little, but it was pretty mild. Now after the injectors, it's pretty bad, and even worse before it warms up. Any ideas?

It sounds like the governor springs may need some tuning. I have the same problem with the 3K springs when trying to use the cruise control. You may want to try tightening them up one click on each spring (to keep them even) and then see how it feels. If it gets worse, then go the other way. With the extra fuel you're noticing the problem more. How are your temps? Glad to hear you like them.

I am with Paul Winey. The gsk can make the throttle touchy. I had the same things happen to me. A little time monkeying with it should fix it. Do any of you guys want to get rid of your stock 215 injectors???? I would really like some for my truck.
