? about differences in bhaf over afe

i currently have a bhaf and am quite pleased w/it. i need to make a heat shield and get an outerwears prefilter though. i have been wondering lately if i would be better off upgrading to an afe intake. i dont know too much about the afe system, like how much it flows, etc. for those who know, would i get more flow from an afe, or should i stick w/the bhaf since i already have one?

If you are wanting to stay in the 300-400hp area the BHAF will be fine.
But, if you want faster spoolup with your turbo and an airfilter that will support you into the 500hp area the AFE megacannon is great.

I switched from the BHAF to the Scotty air system. I am very pleased with the results.
Spoolup is better than before, EGTs are lower than with the BHAF. In my opinion a system using underhood air will always be inferior to a system getting outside air. Especially a system using air that's pressurized by the movement of the vehicle will save the turbo some work.
On the other hand, I second the notion of the BHAF being sufficient for 300-400hp, and if you don't tow or drive in extreme altitudes at high temperatures you may be well served with the BHAF.
In my situation the Scotty has the adantage that I don't have to buy filters all over again ( a major PIA over here, delivery and price...). I found that my BHAF didn't seal too good to the intake and required frequent checks, especially when offroading. The Scotty has a much better connection of the hose to the filter, and holds there tight.
I didn't try the AFE megacannon, since IMHO intakes should be considered as a system and just a filter wasn't what I wanted from mine.

Just my 2c

I have had both. I personally prefer the AFE setup. I can't speak to the Scotty that Alpine brought up as I have not used one but by all accounts it is an awesome system.

By the way how did your bumper issue turn out or has it yet?

Tried them all.

I am at the 400HP mark and have used the BHAF, Scotty II, and AFE MegaCannon. I have the BHAF on right now, and sealing is not a problem at all with the right filter. I am not going to sing the praises of one over another. The only complaint I will make is the noise of the Scotty with the cowl hole is too loud for me.

I have the afe mega cannon, never had or used any of the others, the afe is a excellent air filter that installs very easily and is a great looking product, I opted for it for the longevity of clean, reoil, reinstall, instead of the throw away bhaf. They use the factory mounts, took less than 20 minutes to install and no fabrication work. Goodluck, Rick
