5k Gov Kit install!
Purchased a 5k gov kit got it all in and clicked down to spec. started truck and it wants to run up to 2500 rpm took one click off and nothing changed. i backed the idle screw all the way down so it does not even hit the linkage. called columbus diesel and they told me to turn it down 2 or 3 more clicks. after 2 clicks it ran to 1750rpm and stopped there. took one more click out went to 2400rpm. any help much appreciated!! thanks

When I was searching for my GSK to put in my pump I got in contact with Piers...just before he left PDR and he said that it is usually best to install a 4gsk and lighten the govenor. I actually sent my hole govenor assembly to him seeing my pump was already on a bench tore down and he lightend the thing up ALOT. I know thats not going to be possible seeing yours is still on the truck.
Piers told me though that just putting in the 5GSK springs could raise the idle (ALOT) and make the pedal VERY stiff! and could make it impossible to drive on the road.
Now that mine is installed and it great and was turned to 5500+ RPM on the bench but I had it turned down to 4500rpm for my class.
My pedal is very chrisp and is just a little stiffer than stock and it seems to get up in the RPM very fast (probably because it is lightened up the way it is)
Now one thing that I did have to do once the pump was back together was modify the linkage because the throttle was binding up in the stock form. It was an easy fix and works great now!!!!!

I had this happen as well, my gf did all the work, I was a supervisor as I'm not that good with my hands.
We took them in and out about 20 times.. with all different combinations... With and without the idle shim washer, etc.
We got it to idle around 1500RPM, but if you put it in drive it would kill the truck.. It was not a fun experience.
I gave up and put my 4ks back in from Piers.

When I was working on my linkage problem (stated above) I talked to Van Haisley (Haisleys build my engine for me) and he said that it is very common with the 5gsk's and some 4gsk's that the pump will idle to fast. My pumps idle setting (the tab that the throttle leaver sits on at idle)was still at the stock location and I did have to back it out a few turns. It wasn't till I backed it out these few turns that my linkage started to really stick and that was why I had to modify my linkages. Try pulling your iddle adjustment screw right out of your pump and see if the iddle is still really fast? you may just have to grind a few thou off the bolt head if it does settle down with the screw out!
Hopefully that makes some sense and you know what I am talking about!!!!
