I don't know where you bought them from but they should have came with instructions. I did my plate first and the gov kit a couple days later. I went through the side plug to do the gov kit. You have to remove the shutdown solenoid. You turn the engine over by hand until you see the one set of springs, change them and then turn the engine over by hand until you see the next set. You'll need a magnet to pull them out. I read someone made a tool for undoing the retainers out of a tack puller by pounding it flat and filing the notch out. I used a thin (Snap-On) open end wrench. Count how many clicks you feel taking each retainer out and do them up the same when you install the new springs. The hardest thing I found was putting that freakin' plug back in! : Some guys go through the top when you have the cam plate out. Someone else that's done it that way can give you some pointers.
As far as the cam plate, getting the breakoff screw (top left) out can be a little tricky. I tried drilling and pounding a torx bit in but didn't have much luck. I ended up using a chisel and tapping the screw CCW. It came out pretty easy. An impact driver will really help getting the plate screws loose as they are pretty tight. If you're going to do the gov springs thru the top you'll have to mark the stock position of the plate before you take it out as you won't be able to get at the springs with the template in place.
Get ready for your first ride. You won't believe the difference. You'll be grinning from ear to ear! ;D

Re:gov spring kit
If you go throughthe top and drop stuff it goes in the pump, if you go through the side and drop stuff it hits the crossmember, I still think the side is easier but that's me! I've had mine in and out say 10 times.

Jim

Re:gov spring kit
So easy I called Piers back to make sure I didn't miss anything(oct 01') either measure(recommended) the distance from the nut to the top of the stud or count the clicks backing them out. If there too tight your idle will raise and vise versa, I never measure mine anymore. Piers's kit has good instructions with it, you will like the results of the 3k's and later if you want 4k's they will sell you the 60lb valve springs and the baby gov springs to all (no redundant parts).

Jim

What would happen if you tightened down the springs more than they were could you gain any more rpms I put mine in and it will rev right to 3000 which is fine I was just curious if you could tighten them down a little more and get a little more?? Matt

Re:gov spring kit
I did my retainers up to the stock setting. The springs even feel a little loose. My truck pulls good to 3200. I haven't taken it past there with stock valve springs. I've heard that they'll take about 3400RPM, but I'd rather be safe than bend a valve.
