WHo has installed the HD valve springs on a 94 12v I have never done it and was wanting some info on how easy and maybe some GOOD instructions. I don't want to hear anything about Duct tape and a hammer. I also don't want Someone (GONZO) to tell me to let the sheep do it.<br>DM01

 

Dont know for sure...but the old way was to put air pressure into the cyl then you could remove the keeper and replace the valve springs the air pressure kept the valve in place ???

 

Changing the springs is not that difficult ... You can change springs on cyls # 1 and 6 - #2 and 5 - #3 and 4 at the same time as these &quot;pairs&quot; are at TDC together. 5 and 6 are somewhat a pain to get to .... just be careful not to drop and keepers. <br><br>

Where do I get a valve spring compressor big enough to fit these huge springs?
Alsoshould I have all 12 new valvesprings or just 6? I see on Piers web site that if you buy the springs by themselves you only get 6 but I bought the kit and i got 12. do I change them all or only 6?

I did all 12, as long as you have the covers off and the springs in hand why not. I think if you don't plan on heavy mods and your just installing an exhaust brake then you can get away with 6, but if your adding mods and even think you will be close to floating the valves then do all 12. Like ramin on said you do them like you would a valve lash. My kit from piers came with great directions if you didn't get them give him a call he will e-mail them to you.<br><br>BBD,<br>

 

One more question. I heard that you just turned the engine over and the pistons would hold the valves up. Is that true or do I have to take out the Injectors and pressureize the chamber like in a gas engine?<br>thanks<br>DM01

 

The piston will hold the valves up ...... diesels are not like gas engines. THe combustion chamber in a gas engine is in the head. In a diesel ... it's in the piston - the head is flat.
