47rh valve Body install

Ok Guy's I'm waiting on my Georand Valve body and converter and I was wondering what is involved with installing the new valve body? Also what type trans fluid should I use when refilling the trans is original but still shifts decent for the most part untill you hammer it that is...Thanks

the VB is pretty straight foreward, but probably a little harder laying on your back.
The trans is another story, when you take out the cross member take the bolts out then trans mount, knock the cross member up til you can slide it back towards the rear and out. Go out now and start spraying your tranny cooler line fittings with penetrating fluid. they can be a pain.

The job is a lot easier if you take the Tcase off. Not too difficult. Did you start spraying the cooler fittings yet?

Yes, if you mix it with lubeguard. Dex III + lubeguard = ATF+4

The only place I've checked for Lubeguard is Napa, and they had it. 1 or 2 bottles should be enough, then re-fill with the Dex until full.

Why not just buy the ATF+4? Heck Wally world sells Mopar +4.
I am not willing to chance it to try to save a buck.

Well, because I have a 55 gal drum of Dex III sitting here in our shop that I have use of. I buy my own filters and my boss lets me use the motor oil, gear, oil, tranny oils, etc. etc.

The main reason I did it is because Dave recommended it for the tranny. Also Dex III is less than a buck a qt. and lubeguard was $8 a bottle if I remember right, sure beats paying $4/qt when you need 18 qts. Awhile back infidel told me he's been using the Dex/LG combo for over 200k with no problems.

That's what i love about this site!
Ya learn something new everyday.
I guess it has to do with what elastomer's were used when building the tranny. I always thought if you used Dex in our tranny's it would cause the elastomer's to swell and fail.
So i stand corrected.
