Hey802Dieselcrew here. Today I completed my video of upgrading my 2001 2500 to2005 2500 style front brakes for any interested ill hyperlink my page. It was avery easy upgrade for an DIY dude out there. The detail portion of my videohighlights all of the part numbers of locally sourced parts.

Why:
Discs are at least 1" bigger
Calipers are an upgraded design
Cost was cheap as these are OEM parts ($290) after core return
Offset of the caliper brackets are the same so everything stays true
Bigger is always better

Question: Can I perform this upgrade on my 1999 truck ? (Described in my sig). I think I heard you state that in your video

I thought there was some difference with the DANA 60 axles on my year and older that prevented this upgrade from happening.

I would love some improved braking!

99 and older trucks had a different version of the front Dana 60, which used different end yokes, ball joints and knuckles, and aren't interchangeable with the 00 and newer stuff. Too bad because the 2000 trucks had a lot more stopping power than the older ones. I'd love to have 2000 brakes up front and keep drums in the rear, but I don't want to go to the hassle of upgrading the whole front axle.

the video seems to say:
-buy 2005 brackets/calipers/pads/rotors,
install them & bleed the calipers, and you should be good to go.

thats great, because my 2001 prolly needs brakes anyways, may as well upgrade.

I installed EGR pads in the front of my '94 with braided steel lines and one ton wheel cylinders on the rear drum brakes. It made a noticeable difference.

The one ton wheel cylinders are a direct replacement and have a slightly larger bore for more braking effort. The front pads and rear shoes will wear at the same rate.

 

That's a great upgrade, but it needs to be mentioned that the stock 16" wheels need to be upgraded to 17" in order for the larger rotors to fit.

 

good point, but it has gotten to where you can buy newish OEM rims & tires, cheaper than you can buy tires, so I am going that route.

my truck is a REAL farm truck, and the tire's date stamp last digit is "7" which means my tires are ~10 years old. they have good tread & great dry rot
