12V Boost Guage ??
12V Boost Guage ??
I've done a search and all I can seem to find are answers for the 24V, and since I'm new to this whole "diesel" thing, I wanna make sure I do this right the first time, so here it goes.....
I just picked up my Autometer 0-60 Mechanical Boost Guage and the instructions say to put an in line T-fitting in a vacuum line, but my question is. where did you guys, with your 12V's tap into to get your boost reading?? I've heard that you want it as close to the turbo as possible, but maybe I'm wrong. I hope you guys can help me fast. I kinda wanna get this installed tonight
Thanks Guys

there is a "boost bolt" that replaces one of the intake bolts with this special one. it has a 1/8" NPT (i believe) and a hole through the center of it, allowing quick and easy boost readings from the intake manifold (where you want it). replace one of the stock manifold bolts with this one, very easy. hmmm, maybe only the 24 valves apply boost bolt ...wait and see what others have to say. if not, you can remove the 1/2" drive plug in the intake manifold, just not exactly sure on location on the 12 valve. a couple of reducers and you are ready to go.
is the boost gauge strictly boost? or do you have vacuum gauge as well? i am assuming strictly boost as it goes to 60psi. ???
***edit: have an EGT gauge?

Take a look here: Boost Bolt
There is a 1/8" pipe plug right on the side of the head on a 12 valve. It's located right beside the injector pump, kinda hidden behind the injector lines. You need a 7/16" wrench, and it's not real bad to get at. That's where I always get boost readings on these trucks. It's already the right size hole. Some people will drill and tap the side of the air horn instead.

What Infidel just posted is the way I did mine. I just removed the intake horn (to get working room, don't remove the inj lines) and installed a 90* elbow, and ran the line back along the intake to the firewall, then to the gauge.
I have a photo of how I connected my boost gauge tubing in my gallery that should give you a good idea of how it will look. The fitting simply screws into the hole in the intake manifold where Bill's drawing shows. Very easy and quick to do.
