12cm housing on gen 1

Just wondering if it would work to put on my old 12cm W/gated housing on a '93. I was thinking of doing it to a buddy's truck and add a little more fuel at the same time. Trying to think of a good use for the old stock stuff.

I am pretty sure it will, just plumb a line from the intake manifold to the wastegate so it will be able to do its job. I would also guess the exhaust may have to be moved back slightly since the wastegated housing is a bit longer.

John

So, is it gonna be a good thing? I can see the lag reduction and better boost #'s...that means I HAVE to turn up the pump ;D! Worth a shot since I'm not going to use it anymore. His truck is all bone stock too, he'll like the new found ponies!

The 12 will give a noticeable difference in spoolup. However, if you plan on towing or going to extremes with mods in the future, the 12 will have to come off and replaced by a 14 or a 16 housing to reduce EGT's

I guess you are talking about just switching the housing. I thought they would not interchange because they are different turbos? If they can interchange then tomarrow my 18 will hit the can and in its place will be my 12.

DM01

I thought it would work because the same part # for 16 housings fit both gen 1 & 2.

A 12 will work. The only change needed is shortening of the downpipe. As I recall I believe it is about 1 1/2".

If not the pipe will hit the fire wall? That would put a damper on things :'(. Like the opposite of swapping in my 16 from a 12.
