#10 plate

How importent is it to have guages with a 10 plate. I just bought a 97 4x4 auto. it currently has no plate in it and i want to have some kinda plate. I am not a hot rodder but i pull a stock trailer with cows (alot) What would be the best set up for long didstance haulint with this rig as far as pump tuning. i dont like the no plate i think some one just pulled it out and thats it no other adjustments(tps, turbo, ect). it has a built trans with a strong shift kit but that all i know about the truck.

I think youd be fine BUT just bite the bullet and get a nice set of guages, especially with towing.

My '98 has the #11 plate . I put guages on it and no problems at all. Plenty of power for sure. Just move it a little forward and I think you'll be happy, I was so pleased I put all the guages in the '02. Just not needed in the '98.

Just the question I was wondering about. I am installing a #10 this weekend (gauges will be coming soon) Should it be a concern if the plate is slid completely forward? Does it make a lot of difference?

I would not slide the 10 plate forward till you have a working pyro. I see 1150 towing with my fiver with my 10 plate in the position where the stock plate was.It pulls real nice on the hills here, where I would go from 65 mph on a hill down to 50 mph I can now stay at 65 mph.the 10 plate should have the boost elbow changed to give 36 lbs boost over the 24 I had with the stock plate. I think a full forward plate will make the truck run hot and without a pryo you could melt the pistons.I have a 500 hp 1100 torque converter coming in the mail to install next week. I think I will have all the truck i need to tow my fiver.weight is 7000 truck 1800 pin and total 16600 lbs . I installed and use the TC lock switch all the time towing and love the way my truck tows.I like to pass the ferds that get in my way and give them a wave as I go by them on the hills lol. Later Don

I know a guy who installed a #10 without gauges who got by for a couple years till he was towing a stock trailer up a slight grade with a strong headwind in the summer.

Did this

THANKS...It is just a daily driver and I am not pushing it. BUT I don't want to toast the block. I will have the pyro in a few weeks so I can wait to slid the plate--if I think I need to. But it might be enough power in the stock position?
I tow a 13K pound 5er quite a bit around NC from the mountains to the coast once a month or so.

You can slide the stock plate forward for a little help. I just would not mess too much with the fuel without a pyro in it. Cheap insurance!!
