03 X Baffle silencer

How mant people have removed the X baffle silencer in their 03? On some other forums it's all the rage along with removing the turbo silencer ring . I pulled the baffle out yesterday out of curiosity and found that dirt is getting in there thru the spot where they glued it together and there is a black film on the turbo inlet. When you look @ the baffle it has a cross section that is the same as the intake hose and where the baffles are is a larger cross section. Others are saying that the "X" is a flow straightener ,I've never seen a "Flow Straightener " from factory before let alone in between 2 90* bends . Any ways has anyone removed theirs and seen a improvement ? Mines comming out and being replaced just for the dirt injestion.Any one?

Re:03 X Baffle silencer

I just removed mine and replaced it with the MPC Eliminator pipe from Geno's Garage. I wasn't thrilled paying the price but I couldn't find the correct sized pipe locally. I also removed the silencer ring and with the addition of the aFe Magnum Force intake - you can really hear the turbo sing! Don't buy into the "air straightening" theory as it isn't true...

I thought about removing mine but was told by more than one person there would be no improvement in performance. If someone can prove that it does I would fork out the dough to get a pipe from Geno's.

i cut mine out, that way the tube was left undisturbed. that along with the silencer ring removed had to HELP. there is i big difference in the turbo whine when it spools up. anyway it didn't hurt anything. they are installed as a noise damping devices.

Re:03 X Baffle silencer

Its there more as a muffler more then anything else.
Removing it might give more noise but your weak link is still the factory filter. Thats if you have not replaced it too. Filter surface area and the shape the air must follow and pass through are two big issues to consider. Fluids and gases flow better in a round environment. A square creates more resistance and turbulence that works against the flow even with a turbo working to pull the air in. Kinda like the exhaust...the more changes in it and turns etc, the less effective it is to do its job.

whoops I got off the topic sort of.

Did I mention the color of the new truck? ;D

Re:03 X Baffle silencer

Scotty, does the Scotty Ram Air 3 remove this baffle or do you recomend the removal with its installation? I am considering the Ram Air 3 for my truck when it gets here. I am curious as to the answer.
Thanks Jason

No we never played around with that. I did however, look at a complete replacement set up from turbo to Scotty 3, it was quite pricey and I didn't want to price the system out of the market.
Hope this helps.
