Wasn't all that bad.
I was hitch-hiking acrosss the US back in the early 70's. I got a ride outside of Riverside, in a huge old Desoto, a real road locomtive. These two young boys were supposed to be driving it across country to somewhere in AZ to deliver it to the buyer. It was huge.
I threw my pack in the back seat, and it fell to the floor board. The seat was like a couch, and the floor was at least 2 feet across. The two kids offered me a warm beer which I turned down.
Later I fell asleep, I awoke to bumping and the sound of brush running under the floor board. I sat up and peeked over the seat back. The two guys up front were fast asleep, their heads on each other. The six pack was empty. The desert was rolling under us, as we bumped about 50 mph across the country side, until we hit a big Joshua Tree.
I grabbed my pack, and walked off across the desert to put some distance between us. No one was hurt, but those guys were idiots.
