Berryton Kansas, Heartland USA.
We get snow sometomes, rain more often. Great grass land for the livestock.
Good schools, low crime rate. Paying an average of $1.85 for desiel right now. It varies about 5 cents a day. I am close to I-70, I-35, US75, so it isnt hard to get anywhere.
We get teh drifters from both coasts wind up here causing problems every now and then, but life is pretty good here overall.

Southern Oregon, where it's - 40 all winter & 120 all summer, rains 364 days out of the year. You have to wear a side arm to stay alive.

Best kept secret: One of the best places to raise a family. Mild winters fog in the morn & sun in the afternoon 32* to 55* summer 70* to 85* just enough rain to keep things green. Not much crime in this rural town of 3200. Diesel running about $ 2.15 today. You can drive to the beach, mountains, or high desert in a couple of hours.

Get the heck out of L.A. before you become a statistic.

Sedro-Woolley, WA. It is 4 miles east if I-5. on the north cascads hwy. Still rural, but growing fast. Can watch bald egeals from the front porch.
Shopping mall and outlet mall about 8 miles away, in Burlington.
Lot of outdoor recreation, hunting, good fishing, skiing. Canada is 40 miles north.
After living in Seattle for years, not much crime up here.
Diesel price jumps all over the place. About $2.14 last time I looked.

hahaha. Jim you must live in the high desert area. I have family there in hesperia, victorville, and apple valley. It's not the same as it was 10-15 years ago. Like you said all of the thugs migrated from los angeles. I live just north of santa barbara and we have our fair share of freaks. Michael Jackson lives not far from here and we've had the whole trial zoo thing going on. I've only been robbed once and that was 15 or so years ago. Theres gangs here too but I just try to work in the nicer areas. When I have to work in the slums I take my pitbulls with me and nobody gets near my truck. They are the sweetest dogs on the planet but nobody knows that so they are effective. Diesel here is now $2.17

Just up the road a fur piece from Dennis, down the road from Chris, a little south like of ED, and directly east of Top in the thriving metropolis of Claremont. Population 345 including all the dogs, cats, and other miscellaneous rodents.
Gangs, whats that?
Schools, don't ask.
Diesel, about a buck eighty three or so.
Most exciting thing in this town, watching the grass grow.
Two Rotties, a shepard, and a pit bull for company. Oh yeah, and the wife.

Wife and I live full time in our fifth wheel and stay about where we want to. In San Diego now but heading back up to Coos Bay, Oregon in May. Nice down here in the winter but it's getting as bad as LA here! Crowded and very expensive. We allways meet nice people on the road and I am sure we allways will. Gypsies are allways a little short on money but long on good friends. Nice to be retired but I do get itchie to work at something now and again and go back to work when I need to. Sitting here with my coffee and looking out the window at the marina next door on San Diego bay, I am a lucky man!!

Marshalltown, Iowa. 1.92 for diesel last night, schools are sliding and crime is on it's way up here due to the influx of "diversity enhancers" with the expansion of the packing plant in town. Most of the towns without a packing plant are great though. Low crime, good schools.

Beautiful Arroyo Grande (Pismo Beach) Ca. About 3 miles from the ocean, 10 miles from the fishin hole (Lopez Lake), 20 miles from the hills (Huntin). Weathers perfect 95% of the year, max in summer 90 on a bad day, usually 75-80 deg. People are friendly, low crime rate. You could say this is God's country.

Little Rock Ar.

Back about 10 years ago we had a terrible gang problem (you may remember the HBO film “Bangin in Little Rock). The police force nearly doubled and gang crime nearly disappeared. In 1992 there was about 150 murders in Little Rock. Last year there was maybe 15. Little Rock is a relatively safe city for its size (200,000 +). During the last 5 years there has been a major revitalization of the downtown area. The “River Market” area is unbelievable. There are all kinds of restaurants and bars that have sprung up making downtown one of the most popular spots in the city.

All that said… I would love to live in Colorado. Somewhere around Durango or Ouray. I can’t imagine a more beautiful part of the country.

Oh yeah…. Diesel here is around $1.80

Britt

about 10 minutes from downtown baltimore city...cant say the crime is too bad in my area, there are housing projects within a few miles where the drugs and crime are bad...but i am close to everything I need.

Fishing across the street on the river, hunting only 30 minutes north, ocean is 3 hours away, and diesel is running around $2.09 a gallon now. Gonna stop and fill up on my way home tonight!

My dream home would be in colorado springs, or somewhere in southern alaska, where they still have summer, but a somewhat long and beautiful winter!

East Tennessee, live on Watts Bar Lake/Tennessee River, Can sit on my porch and look at Mt. Leconte in the Smoky Mountains.
Some crime, mainly the druggy's breaking and entering. If you are known in the county as someone who will shoot to protect his property/family....... the druggys leave you alone. LOL.
Get 4 distinct seasons. Hundreds of miles of 4X4/atv trails, great fishing/hunting, lots of elbow room, close to Knoxville and the things a "big city" can give you, schools vary in quality but you can get a great education if you want one.
I've travelled alot, so i'm not going to say it's the best place in the country..... but it's one of them.

Good schools, fairly quiet, not too much crime (the neighbors mailbox got bashed recently but not much else) diesel ranges from 1.80-1.95. Plenty of work around here to be done, can go a couple miles from home and ride the CZ for miles and miles with no interuptions. All said, not too bad.

Newtown Square, PA. Used to be "country" 25 years ago, now it's become an inner part of the of the Philly urban sprawl. Housing costs are through the roof, traffic is ridiculous due to 1950's roads carrying 10 times the traffic they should, diesel prices are legalized extortion, and people are still fleeing Philly and joining the sprawl. Bright spots - the yuppies don't know all the back roads (yet), gun laws are reasonable so crime is low, and business is good (if you're not in Philly).
