About 5 miles west of Washington DC.
Our neighborhood is comprised of houses (~$500K & up)built in the late 40s (Brick & Block) and mostly older couples. Generally Upper-Middle class.
There are "good" areas and "bad" areas (our bad is better than some folk's good)
Large immigrant populations, mostly Hispanic, Asian with corresponding gangs.
They comprise a very small segment of the population, but in our quiet area, they get the most Press when they crack heads.
They stick to themselves and 99% of their "Banging" involves other gang members.
Virginia is a 'Shall Issue' state, so "I am my own Homeland Security"

Traffic here is something we get used to, as changing your leave time can make a 30-45 minute difference in the length of your commute.
I leave the house @ 0600 and am sitting at my desk on the other side of DC 30 min. later.
If I tried that same trip at 0700, it could take 1 hour or more.

45 Cetane Diesel is going for $2.199 gal.

Talking

I live in Leelanau County, Michigan. If you look at the back of your left hand, I live on the outside edge of the nail of your little finger. As a matter of fact, our county is called the little finger of Michigan. The county is triangle-shaped, connected at the base to the rest of the state, and surrounded on the other sides by Lake Michigan and Grand Traverse Bay. Our weather is moderated by the lake, so we average in the low 30's for highs in the winter, and the high 70's/low 80's in the summer. Our population for the county is about 17,000 spread over 300 square miles. We are quite rural, with a handful of villages spread around the county. Very little crime, very good schools. Where I teach (Leland) we have the highest ranked class D school in the state academically. (450 kids, K-12) We graduate 100% of our seniors, and about 95% go on to college or trade schools. I never lock the vehicles in the driveway, and don't worry if I go away for the weekend and forget to lock the door. The county's main industries are farming (fruit, mainly cherries) and tourism. Some great people here, but it's a pretty shallow gene pool. If you were born here, chances are that you are related to about 80% of the rest of the population. No funny looking kids sitting on the front porch with a banjo, but you have to be careful who you talk about to whom, because they are probably related. We live where everybody else wants to take their vacation. It's beautiful country, but it's about a 25 mile drive for weekly grocerys or shopping. (Traverse City) Diesel fuel is running about $2.00-2.05 this winter. Overall, a very good place to raise a family. A lot of retirees in the county, as it's ....well, a great place to retire to. Property values are going through the roof, and it's becoming increasingly difficult for the average family to be able to afford decent housing.

Middlesex county Virginia. Only one highway and that ends in the Chesapeake Bay, two traffic lights, 10,000 residents, lots of week-enders & summer folks. High percentage of well-off retired professionals, everyone else either farms or works on boats. One high school (good one), no hotels, almost everybody lives on the water and owns at least a boat or two (I have six). Very low tax rates, diesel $1.95+/gal. The major crimes are people having their oyster float or crab pot pilfered. We're not at the end of the earth but you can see it from here.

South central Arkansas here, about 45 mile from louisana border. Small community outside of Camden called Locust Bayou. Doesn't have a population sign, not enough people. Joke is that the state got tired of changing it as older people died. Doesn't even have a store. Camden is about 8-10 miles away. largest and only discount store is Walmart. Diesel is 1.94 to 2.05 depending on the station. The biggest crime problem is drugs, gangs not to bad here now sent most of the members to prison for their crap, was a deputy sheriff for 11 years part time but no more. Found out there was a life without working 2 jobs. South arkansas is great, summers are hot, winters are cool, but not much snow. That can be good or bad, dependson your desire for snow. Love the area born and raised here.

If there is a more beautiful place it would have to be in Alaska. I'm in sin city, but I left my soul in Colorado.

Palmyra is about 20 minutes outside of the Charlottesville area. Dead center in Virginia. I hear that there's some minor gang problems in Charlottesville but nothing out here. Property values have totally gone through the ROOF!!!!! It seems that this entire area is going through a tremendous building boom. Some say it's because Charlottesville has been nominated the number one place to live in the USA two years in a row. LUCKY ME! Now everyone is coming down here! New developments all over the place!! All those nice quiet country roads are filling up with volumes of traffic that they're not built for. These are narrow, hilly, winding, one lane roads with no shoulders. A real pain when we get ice on the roads. Diesel is around $1.95. The mountains are just to the west. Plenty of trails and lakes,,,,, and now PEOPLE!!!!!

Avilla, Arkansas. About 25 miles west of Little Rock and 12 miles north of Benton. About the only vehicle traffic we have is those that are coming to see us or those that are lost.

Anywhere USA. We fulltime in our RV because of Mr. Flashdancr’s job, he builds hospitals. We’re in North Carolina now. I’m a Texan and missin’ it, the kids are there and NC winters are too cold. We also own a place in NW Arkansas out in the boonies. May be going to South Carolina at the end of the month on a new job. Never know where we may end up, but it’s fun seeing new places and meeting new people.
NC diesel $1.98

I live in the smallest state, Rhode Island. Not really too far from anything, considering the state is only about 45 miles across.
I own a small excavating company, sell firewood, buy and sell property, build houses, and buy and sell trucks and equipment.
Wife and I live in a middle class neighborhood where everyone watches out for everyone else. We have a good mix of families varying in age from newlyweds to elderly. We bought this house for a bunch of reasons, it's 4 houses away from my grandparents who are in their 80's. It's about 30 seconds away from her parents, in the same development. One big reason for buying this house is that it is the biggest lot, over a half acre, most lots in here are from 5-10k sqare feet. It's against the woods, with a river behind it so there is good fishin' 150' from the back door.
Crime is low in this section of town, because everyone knows everyone. If there is anything that goes on, it's usually just the neighborhood kids being kids. The parents here definitely do their job as far as raising respectful kids. When a house goes up for sale here, it's usually on the market for about 1 week and it is sold.
Diesel here ranges from 2.15 to 2.30 depending on where you go.
Wife and I someday want to buy 20 acres or so and put up a log home to retire in. But until then, we'll stay right here. Good neighborhood, good neighbors.

Maineville, Ohio - 27 miles from Cincinnati, 30 miles from Dayton.....
The two are growing together way too fast. New houses, fast food, shopping centers are everywhere now.
Rain, Snow, Sleet, Wind, Sun...... all within an hour. Find me another place that can do that.... Wait 15 minutes and the weather will change.
Minimal crime here, but the county now has a "Smoke Ordinance" since a few people started smoking out the sheriff, so i guess making your truck smoke is a crime.
Diesel Prices: $1.91 to $2.21 that i saw today.
