What size is Hub bearing nut on a 1998 1500 dodge 4x4?

I have done two wheel bearings on my buddies dakota, think those were 30mm or so.

but this truck's bearing/hub retainer nut is over 1 1/2.
it's a 4x4.

i measured it last night an thought it was 1 1/2
went bought a set of sockets that ended at 1 1/2, but that was too small

that's what i was thinking.

Sears had a set of big 5 sockets - up to 1 1/2, they were $29 or $39

the next set they had was 16 sockets for $199.

Northern Tool, despite having TOOL in their name...has no socket sets of that size in stock. they had mostly small stuff, and stuff over 2 inches in stock.

i think i will go buy a few separates at the Parts Store, and see which one fits, and take the rest back.

thanks.

yeah, but I did not know the size to buy.

they are $9 each, so posted up here.

sure do appreciate the help.

this boys' bearing has been bad for a month, he drove till he lost his job, then was going to another job interview, and it let loose on the highway.

that was last Wednesday, been in my back yard since.

he's supposa have the ABS hub today (special order) so i want to have the socket to get him back on his feet.

gotta take care of folks.

Seems to me it is an 1 9/16".I bought a set of 1" drive sockets when I did my '95 hubs and bearings and I could not get any one socket to fit well because the past "mechanic" used a chisel and hammer to remove them.I did replace one of the nuts and I am pretty sure it was 1 9/16".It could be metric even but that socket will work.
Mine will be coming apart again soon for ujoints as soon as I can find a vice or press to change them.
NAPA wants $231.00 for one half shaft,I can buy the U joints and a shop press for less than that.Ron G

it's not a 1 3/4 - that will work, but it has a LOT of slop in it.

I bought this, and none of the sockets fit good, but the 1 3/4 worked

was $39 yesterday, you ought to go get this set BEFORE you need it (or you will have to use a hammer and a chisel)

this is about the same set that is $199 at sears. not sure why website says $239.
