Washing machine repair...
So I have an older Inglis Washing machine......
I noticed the other day that when I turn it to cold water setting, hardly any water comes out, when it is on warm setting it is very very hot....
Anybody know how I go about fixing this problem?

First take the hose off the valve that comes out of the wall. There should be a screen in there. Make sure it is not clogged. If it is clean, I'm out of options!!
Maybe some other valve inside that could be plugged or just somehow not opening enough. If it was a water pump I could help more.

You probably have a screen on the inlet of the cold water side. Take the cold hose off the washer and make sure you are getting plenty of flow then look at the connection where the hose connects to the washer and there is probably a screen there to keep contaminents out of the valve. You want to make sure that it is clean.
The last thing to take a look at is the electric solenoid valve for the cold side. It may have died or is about ready to.

Thanks........
I will try those things tonight, I also ave another idea!
Switch the hoses, run the machine on the hot setting and just forget about it......
I'd rather wash my clothes with just cold water anyway.
That screen thing just ould be it though.
Thanks.

If you need parts, try these guys: http://www.apdepot.com/
I just found them a few weeks ago, since they have a storefront, near anotehr parts store. I have not used them yet, just thought it may help!

Pull both hoses, and check at both ends of both hoses. There is a screen at the tap end on the hose, and a screen on the washer. Both may be plugged. Easy to forget the machine end when switching hoses. Buy new hoses, since by the time the screen plugs, the hose may be old enough to burst under the constant pressure.
It always happens when you are gone or asleep.
many people now use a largepan, like the ones on the hot water heater, to catch water, and pipe it out of the room. Saved my floor once.
Also a good time to clean the dryer vent. Pull the hose, and run a stove pipe cleaner downt he tub to the outside of the house. Change the vent hose if it is torn or melted. You will be surprised what it looks like inside!

Thanks for all the tips....... I did pull the hoses off and check the screens, found them to be quite bunged up with disgusting crud.
Cleaned them out and expected the problem to corrected. Wrong.
So I switched them for now and am washing strictly with cold water.
Any otther tips?

Sounds like it's time to open 'er up and find the cold water solenoid valve. Make sure it has power and ground when it should be open. If it does, new solenoid valve. If not, gotta look at the wiring diagram (on a sheet taped to a panel somewhere in the machine) and start tracing the power back to the source. Could be the selector switch, could be the timer.
