Talking Vacate to Acadia ... need advice!

Hey guys,

I need some advice on things to see & do, and places to stay near Acadia. I may not get any replies to this due to Acadia being up in ME, but I'm hoping somebody can help.

The wife and I haven't had a real vacation in 7 or more years. My M-I-L will be coming to stay at our house and watch the boys and kick the cat for us. So it will be just me and the missus heading up there.

Since my wife and I will be alone, I'm hoping we can find a place to stay that may ... influence my wife into lots of ... aerobic activity . Don't read anything into this. My wife has no problem with that sort of thing, but depending on where we stay, if she's even a bit grossed out about it, there won't be much happening.

Oh yeah, there's the park there too. And if you know of any particular thing we may want to see or do, let me know that too. But I want to keep my priorities in line and focus on a nice, clean, romantic (with as little pink & frilly crap as possible) place for us to "stay."

We drove up from Virginia a couple of years ago. It's a great place! We stayed in a bed and breakfast in Bar Harbor There are a few million bed a breakfasts there. What time of year are you going? we went around Halloween and they pretty much have Bar Harbor packed up until spring. We saw snow while we were there. Do you like seafood? It's like lobster central there. Acadia national park it pretty neat also. There's also a lighthouse nearby. We went to the LL Bean store in Freeport it's open 24/7 365.

Shawn - Would you recommend that B&B based on my intentions? And if so, do you remember the name of it? I was hoping to find one with pretty decent levels of sound deadening, IYKWIM.

Plan to take a day and go to Nova Scotia on the ferry. It is high speed now but used to be the Blue Nose ferry.Anyone in the area can tell you about it,in fact you will see the dock on the left there as you enter Bar Harbor.Have fun!!Ron G

I personally didn't like the bed and breakfast experience. But the one we stayed at was pretty nice we got the upgraded private bedroom downstairs. It had it's own fireplace and it's own private bath. I think it had a jetted tub but I don't remember for sure. I'll have to check with the wife for the name. The cat ferry was closed for the season when we were there.

I've been going up to Bar Harbor since I was in my teens. The Mrs. and I go every August, but aren't this year as our son is 2.5. He's not going to be happy in the carraige most of the time, and he'd want to walk everywhere, so as a parent you know we wouldn't get much walking/hiking done. We'll be back next year.

We stay at place that rents cottages, which is on Frenchman's Bay of the Atlantic. Very quiet, but only a couple of miles from Acadia and 4 or 5 miles from downtown Bar Harbor. The cottages aren't new, but very well kept with cable, heat, showers and/or tubs, ect.

When do you plan to go, as Shawn says, things tend to get quite after Labor day. Where to park, where to eat, what to do (Kayaking, biking, hiking, relaxing) we've done it all. Where do you want me to start?
