Get a good claybar. It worked wonders on my dark paint.

BigBlue is right. Claybar is the best for stuff like overspray. If it is your first time using it...just be ready to do a good handwax afterwards.

I have used Avon's Skin so soft to take off tar and bugs. Works great, but a little expensive, but I had connections, my mother was an avon rep. IT works great in a pinch if you don't have anything else around, also good at removing old bumper sticker adhesive.

WD40 gets tar off, but make sure you clean it off and put new wax on.

At the car dealer I worked at many years ago we used varsol. Doesn't bother the paint at all. DO NOT use lacquer thinner or any other strong solvent! Wash after with soap and water to remove the varsol.
