Re:Tired of all the talk...
Second that, Top. AlpineRAM can fly my six any day.
He and people like him are among the major reasons why it would be a mistake for the U.S. to "disengage" from the world and follow a policy of unilateralism -- applying American power without consultation with friendlies and neutrals. The UN, NATO, and other organizations give us a *relatively* harmless forum to do that, as frustrating as that experience may be.
Both organizations are largely American inventions, and both require American leadership to work well. Unfortunately, leadership sometimes means having to listen to someone like Jacques Chirac. The last time the U.S. disengaged from a major international organization (the League of Nations, eighty years ago), things went very bad very quickly for nearly everyone -- including America.
For better or for worse, the realities of the 21st century -- especially the economic realities -- do not allow us to follow unilateral policies without paying a high price. At some level, the U.S. government understands this. Much of what happens in public is just posturing, no matter what the side.

Re:Tired of all the talk...
Well folks, now you made me blush :
TJinTX: The things I read over here were that some US planes had detected radar signals with a strenght that would allow ranging.....
You are right about FC radar. This isn't only putting the gun to somebodies head but also snapping the security.... I do agree on the pucker factor, on the "I wanna kill that ***'s before they kill me"factor and on this being a material breech of the resolution.
Todays news over here said that there was some kind of agreement that the US would wait til mid march, and the UN inspectors would have a report ready til then.
One of the main points that was considered a material breech was that Iraq owned missiles with a longer range than allowed.
Something else on the news over here was that the US would install a temporary government and, If I heard this right, would pose it under international control. They said something like they would let this last until the situation had calmed down and then go into a smooth transition to a democratic government.
I think that if we look at the economic reality today so much is interlinked ( let's see Daimer Chrisler makes our trucks, with parts from all over the world... we have retirement pension plans that invest into stocks, shares etc globally) that even the US can not lets say bomb any country in the world and stay unscathed economically. There will be some, maybe remote, US property destroyed then. I think the same applies for any nation. I hope that my government understands this, and I think you hope the same about yours
I found out some very interesting things during this thread: First, we all live in countries with a constitution that grants us freedom of speech, and which sport an assumably independent press. Well, I think I saw what kind of different filtering of facts takes place over here and in the US ( I assume that both sides get somewhat filtered informations)
I saw a kind of mechanism that works like this: I think that what you say is complete rubbish because you just know half of the facts. You think I am a *** knowing half of the facts and therefore my opinions are irrelevant. Now imagine a pie. I suppose that if we would put all of our information together we could be glad if we found that together we had half the pie. I do value this source of information very much, because if you haven't got a good portion of the facts you will not be able to get to a valid conclusion.
About leadership: I don't know if it's true but I read that some US president had a sign on his table in the white house that said " The bull stops here" - yep leadership is never easy if it's done right. I think that history tells us that any kind of empire was in it's decline when it started getting too comfortable to be the boss of the show.
Just some thoughts.
