Nothing big, but let me know if it matters either way...
If you got against something hard enough to scrape off some rubber, and the tire is a failure-prone steel-belted radial, keep an eye on the location of the injury.
In a few days, or weeks, the tire will seperate and develop an air-pocket, if it doesn't fail catastrophically first.
If you keep this in mind, and drive like you have some sense, and leave the cell-phone at home, it may never give a problem.
****, I can't afford anything right now...
Might have to break out some coin for the BFG AT's...
It just scraped a few small spots of rubber off... I thought the sidewall was strong enough to protect this...

The sidewall of a radial tire is it's weakest point.
They can't stand very much.
The very meaning of the name "RADIAL" is a lack of cross-woven plies, as in a good old BIAS-PLY tire.
The cords, in the sidewall of a radial, go straight up, from bead to tread; whereas, a bias-ply tire has sidewalls that are cross-woven, like cloth.
On my route throught the ghetto, theres a piece of a curb that sticks out about a foot into the street. I have hit this thing about three times at 35 plus MPH with the side wall of my right rear outside tire. It scuffed the sidewall rubber up pretty good but I havent had any issues with it. I thought last time that I had cut it cause it hit hard, but just the usual scuffs and nothing else. Since then these tires have taken me from memphis to florida and several trips to alabama with no issue. If it concerns you then I would say change it. If not the just roll wit' it bro!!!

Ok, now I'm getting concerned... One of my rear tires has a cut in it about 4 inches long. As if someone took a razor blade to it. Not sure how deep it goes but it's definately more than just a surface scratch. Not only that, the same tire has a fat nail in it so it looses about 20 psi of air every few days. I know, it's pretty bad... But I've been driving it cautiously until I get it fixed. Guess I better hurry up!

Can you see any cord in the cut? if it is not that deep then you do not need to replace the tire. These tires will hold up to more then you think. The thing is that once the cord is exposed it starts to rust on with all the flexing the tire does it will break the cords. So as long as the belt is not showing then you have nothing to worry about in my professional opinion.
The day after I got my truck, I "rubbed" a high curb and peeled some of the surface rubber off.. Michelin AS 265/70/17s load range E.. 48,000 miles later a little more rubber has peeled off... looks nasty but no bulging... some white showing.. figure I got another 4-5k worth of tread left... my tire dealer has rotated them every 5k since new and never said a word...
