Stihl Chain Saw Purchase
kick back
Wow, it sounds like you need some time on that saw. Don't get hurt. Get somebody w/ some experience to get you started out and get some chaps and steel toe boots. Asking what kickback is and calling the bar a blade sent up some red flags. Sorry, I've seen some pretty bad cuts in my day, but the chainsaw wounds are the worst. Anyway, the Stihl or the Husky are both excellent choices. I've moved towards the husky recently after running one for a while, power and balance. Kurt

I am 37 and have been cutting wood since I was 10. I have never had a chain saw incident or any other power tool for the matter. But I know power tools can change your life in a split second if you are not on top of your game..
So back to the Stihl purchase.... The guy is now going to give me $900.00 cash to get my saw. So my question is do I really need the 460? Or would there be a little less saw that would fit my needs and I could pocket a little cash as well. I was looking at the 360's, 441's and 460's. There is a 1.5 HP difference between the 360 and 460. I picked up a few downed trees today that where cut into 10 foot lengths. The tree diameters are 46". My little Poulan 20" does not even want to start when I walk up to the tree.. ha ha..... And I am not going to even waste my time trying to cut this big ones with the little Poulan... I will be getting a lot of large diameter trees so that I why I am trying to figure out if a 1.5 HP difference is worth the extra cash for what I have to cut? I am not logging by trade. I do excavation and make deals with other dirt guys to take all the trees from their lots. I get the trees for free for off hauling them.
Thanks guys for the help.....
Good news! I'm just super extra careful and didn't hope to sound condescending. I've cut a ton o' wood over my time and haven't ever had kickback either. The only saws I truly am scared of are those flush cut reciprocating saws for cutting up next to cabinetry! Yikes. Happy Buck'in, Kurt
Today I had to use a $2000.00 dollar chain saw that cuts concrete with a diamond blade. The saw was brand spanking new... I was hoping I did not finally find out about kick back was about.......
And I picked up my Stihl 460 today.!!!

Used my new 460 today..... WOW is all I can say. And yes I had my new Stihl chaps on.....!!! The dealer hooked me up with a full skip blade and threw in a new set of Stihl chaps...!!!!
Cut awesome and sounded great..... Do you have to sharpen full skip chains more than a normal chain?
Thanks....
