Question Steering Wheel Audio Controls Question

Does anyone know why when I use my volume control on my steering wheel it will change the station? It doesn't do it all the time but it's enough to get annoying. Could it be a wire getting crossed or something? My 99 did it but the truck got wrecked before we could do anything about it.

Thanks in advance.

Never having had such a fancy labor saving device, I can only speculate.

Do you remember if it seems to happen more when the steering wheel is turned or straight?

I'm thinking dirty connector on the clockspring.

Might try working the button repeatedly. It could have corrosion or maybe something spilled into it. You could get some contact cleaner from radio shack.

Beware if you try that. The cans usually say to test it on a small portion. I used some we have at work on my cell phone after I dumped a carb bowl of gas on it. Well, the gas was nothing compared to what the buttons did with the cleaner. They swelled up so much I couldn't close the phone. The finally shrunk after a couple of days.

Does that mean it works while turning or you have not tried it while turning. I would at least try working the switch a bunch of times. Its free and you can't screw up anything that isn't already.

I usually don't try and change the volume or station while I'm turning. It happens sporadically.
