I was wondering if any of my fellow DTR family plays softball. I play on my church league team, and our district tournament starts tommorow night. if we finish in the top 2 then we move on to the state tournament.
We have only lost one game this year, and won the warm up tournament 2 weeks ago without blinking. That one loss we had is what I like to clal an eye opener. It was good for us.
Also, for those that do play what bat do you prefer? brand and size (length/weight)

Hey Happy,
Well I umpire High School Baseball. Does that count? hee hee
My season is over til fall ball kicks up. I did call some good Varsity ballgames this year.
Out of abt 50+ games only had a handful of 10 run rules. Glad your having a good season
and nice to see another ball nut on here.

I'm back playing soft ball after finishing my final yr Amatuer baseball career at 62 yr of age. I have an Easton EST 34-28 end load. I'ts ok. works good on so called flat pitches. I really look for them. Switching from baseball to softball has been a real challenge this time. I tend to pull hit very hard because of slower ball speed. watch out 3rd base coach. I don't hit the long ball much anymore and try for a high on base average as I did in baseball. I avg around .550 which seems reasonable around here. The baseball swing doesn't seem to affect hitting. I don't hit big fly *****...mush more line drives. The quick swing seem to affect the distance as opposed to the long sweep of softball. SB guys don't usuall do well in BB. same in reverse.
The one thing I've noticed is that in the infield the ball seems to come a bit quicker in softball as opposed to baseball. I know the distance is more in BB but you have more ground to cover too. The ball just seems to come off the bat quicker, especially the big guys. You really have to learn to read the hitter..ie where he is going to hit. It will give you a step which at my age I really need. The guys that really fool me are the old guys like me that can delay or advance their bat on the swing. It gives a totally false read and I must say some of them have left me badly out of position.
After throwing baseballs for a while, throwing the softball is not quite so easy. It seems to hang on the fingers and throwing in the dirt happens occasionally. I can't throw as hard as I used to so getting to the ball as quick as possible and making an accurate throw is important. It is important to throw a good fast ball that doesn't break much rather than a slider that breaks at the last few feet. I try to practice with our infielders and throw the same ball they do, that way everone is looking for the same break. I played BB with a very hard throwing SS that threw breaking ***** that went both ways. It was very difficult to judge his throws. If they were on target it wasn't bad but if you had to reach you really had to pay attention. Others had the same problem.
The larger and heavier glove doesn't seem to be a problem in the infield
Played SB on a BB field last week with LF at 330 and 8 ft fence. 3 went way way over and about a dozen hit the fence. (none of mine!!)

. As for my bat Miken Ultra II is the best bat hands down. Size is a 34/27. Banned in most leagues now though
