rustproofing guns, which coating?

Anyone know of a good rust proof coating for gun barrels, receivers? Something that will take some abuse.
Taking the gun apart and sending parts off to be coated is OK. It doesn't have to be all shiny and smooth, a sort of dull military green or flat black would be fine.

If you want the best it's expensive but it is the best IonBond. There are other coatings that are good but they're not IonBond.

I don't remember the rockwell hardness but it puts hard chrome to shame. It's very thin and I watched a guy take a pocket knife and run it across the barrel and slide of a gun and not a scratch. I have a friend who is the top 3 gun shooter in the world he uses his guns daily and no wear. You can even do the sites and you won't need site black any more.

Robar's NP3, matte hard chrome, Lauer's Duracoat if you want green/black etc.. lot's of options.

If you want a great rustproof coating professionally done at an affordable price do an internet search for Mac's Shooting Irons. Might be Shootin'. But he is great, quick turnaround great job and easy to deal with

the duracoat stuff is good and with a little skill you can turn out a good job at home. I used the matte black durabake on my carry colt 1911commander it has held up well. I use the duracoat on an old beat up shotgun it seems to be fairly tuff as well.

The most durable other than NP3 or hard chrome is Duracoat over parkerizing. I Duracoated a 1911 a few years ago that sees regular carry and repeated drawing from a kydex holster at IPSC/IDPA matches and last I saw it it was in great shape.

Thanks for the replys. I'm going to send one of my deer rifles off to Robar and get some Duracoat and do one of my
shotguns at home.
